I have gotten my saturn modded and all ready to go this is a model two saturn with jap/usa region switch and it also is chipped
It plays all originals jap and us fine and the switch is fully functional
I have tried to burn 2 games dragon ball z and radiant silvergun
with dragon ball z it was on a maxell cd-r burned at 8x slowest imgburn would let me go, the game boots and plays fine usually on the first try, it has frozen on me once but usually runs flawlessly if i let the saturn run for about 15 mins and reset it it will no longer accept the back up it will not see it as an application and just wants to play as an audio cd (please note the system will still read originals here still)
with radiant i burned one copy from an iso/mp3 source on sony cd-r at 8x the sony has a very bluish dye the disk is just plain rejected by the saturn it tried to load once but black screened
I burned a second copy from a bin/cue source on memorex at 4x (burned at a friends house) and it has the same symptoms as dragonball z it will run but if i reset the console it will not read the cd-r anymore it also will not read if the system has been on for a period of time
I was wondering is it the cd-rs, the speed, could the laser be going out, do i need to adjust the pot, any ideas thank you I do have a spare saturn but i really dont want to sacrifice it if not at all necessary

no ideas?
Re: saturn CD-R problems HELP!
I have a modded model 2 Saturn, use Maxell media, and burn at 8x using ImgBurn and have had no issues other than bad roms. If the games run for awhile then it sounds like the media and roms are okay, but it always helps to have a Saturn emulator to test the roms.
I am no expert in the world of console modding, but if you are having the same issue with two different games on two different brands of media, and original games work, then I suspect the mod-chip is having issues. I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting that though.

First of all check the ISO's actually work with an emulator.
Assuming that they do work, then give the laser a good clean.
If its still not behaving then, try adjusting the Pot. I think mine needed some tiny adjustments when I first did mine. I you have a multimeter then check what the resistance is before you move anything, that way you can easily find the right range if you over adjust the screw.

well consider that the US and Jap games works fine.. i think you can take out the laser being bad from the equation.
- Next possiblity is the CDR because you said it did boot up and played for a bit.
- I really doubt its the way your burning it, because you did burn the bin/cue files and did play.
-also could just be a bad file you downloaded.
* If i was you i would just try to buy differ type of cdr higher quality.
From my Experience all the games i burned works flawless, sorry i forgot type of cdr ive used or else i tell you. Also ive been using Alcohol 120 to burn my games.

Had some hit or miss burned games myself once. If it means anything, most of the games that work for me are Memorex CDR's.

also forgot to note i would avoid iso/mp3 unless you want to convert the mp3 to --->wav so the saturn can read the sound files. But anyways its pain and so much hassel to do. ANd if your just burning straight iso/mp3 im pretty sure it loads up but there will be no audio tracks and if there is its just for portion of game.
So all in all just stick to Bin/cue files
