Actually Fastbilly used to work in a slaughterhouse.

As for me, I know how crappy the meat industry is. Yes, it's filthy and terrible. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop eating meat. When available I'd rather eat fresher meat though. For instance in the South many people hunt. So if a friend offers fresh venison, you take it. If I go fishing, I clean and cook what I catch, unless I don't want it(such as if it's not edible), in which case I put it back while doing as little harm as possible...considering it already has a barbed hook in its mouth.

And for the record I try to avoid dairy products and drink lots of soy milk, but that's because I'm lactose intolerant.

Its odd for me to think of deer having a limited population.

Around the western part of town here, nearer to the mountains, it's not unusual to find deer tromping around in your backyard, crossing streets, and just generally wandering around and oblivious to the people.

Yeah, last year the state of Michigan actually raised the number of deer a hunter could take in a season because they are so abundant. I guess car accidents involving deer were way up. I don't hunt myself, but everyone in my extended family does, so that usually means enough extra meat for my family. That's about as "organic" of meat as you can get.

Oh, and on Sunday my 5 year pointed out that the Easter Bunny had a zipper on his back.

That's fucking weird. There's tons of deer here. In fact, hunting them runs in seasons. Most people don't understand that hunting them here is actually more humane then not. They become overpopulated, so a lot will starve. That and they cause car accidents.

So here's a perfect way to relate back to the actual thread topic: Last year, it was the night before Easter. I got the munchies and decided to drive up to 7/11 for food. It was about 11:00PM, and it's a 5 minute or less drive from my house. I got half way there, and a deer ran right into the side of my car. Fucked it up real good. Usually deer will run in front of a car, and the car will hit them head on. This guy just ran right into me. What a fucking idiot. Anyways, I pretty much associate Easter with this story now.

I spent my entire childhood summers in a mountain village known for being a good place to hunt, and I have yet to see a deer. Though all the turtles you can get. Seriously, the other day I saw a pack of 8 land turtles by the road.

Yeah, you see a lot of deer here. There's one that's often in my backyard. I'd post a pic I took of him a while back, but it's on my other computer. :(

I've never seen a "pack" of turtles in my life. Since when do they flock?

No idea. I usually find lone ones as well. But for some reason, that was the 3rd time in my life I find a bunch of grown up turtles at the same place :S

every summer we'd pick up a small turtle we find on the way to the river, keep it as a pet for a few weeks, and then release it into the wild. :)
