Well, that's bizarre.Limewater wrote:I don't see any purely logical distinction between killing and eating a plant or killing and eating an animal.
I'll be more concise then, I don't have any desire to eat something that was once sentient.

I can't take credit, it may have been George Carlin, but the gist was, If God didn't want us to eat cows, why did he make them so tasty?brunoafh wrote:Well, that's bizarre.Limewater wrote:I don't see any purely logical distinction between killing and eating a plant or killing and eating an animal.

How do you determine sentience?brunoafh wrote: Well, that's bizarre.

If it can explain to me why I shouldn't marinate it while I fire up the grill, that's sentience.Limewater wrote:How do you determine sentience?brunoafh wrote: Well, that's bizarre.

We prepare meat to taste good. If you take a bite out of a piece of raw cow meat, it won't be very tasty.mjmjr25 wrote:I can't take credit, it may have been George Carlin, but the gist was, If God didn't want us to eat cows, why did he make them so tasty?
Something that has the ability to think, feel, and act.Limewater wrote:How do you determine sentience?
Babies can't do that. Flake eats babies!Flake wrote: If it can explain to me why I shouldn't marinate it while I fire up the grill, that's sentience.
Taste is subjective. I've eaten raw venison and enjoyed it.brunoafh wrote: If you take a bite out of a piece of raw cow meat, it won't be very tasty.
Many plants sense when they are being attacked (harvested/nibbled upon et cetera), respond defensively, and send signals to other nearby plants so that they can also respond defensively. That sounds like feeling and acting to me. I can't say what counts as "thinking."Something that has the ability to think, feel, and act.Limewater wrote:How do you determine sentience?
Edit: Or what Flake said.
Not just babies. I'd be willing to bet that around 2/3 of the world population isn't sentient. Unless Flake speaks Chinese or something. Then it might only be half.J T wrote:Babies can't do that.
