Well, that's bizarre.

I'll be more concise then, I don't have any desire to eat something that was once sentient.

I can't take credit, it may have been George Carlin, but the gist was, If God didn't want us to eat cows, why did he make them so tasty?

How do you determine sentience?

If it can explain to me why I shouldn't marinate it while I fire up the grill, that's sentience.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

We prepare meat to taste good. If you take a bite out of a piece of raw cow meat, it won't be very tasty.

Something that has the ability to think, feel, and act.

Edit: Or what Flake said.

Taste is subjective. I've eaten raw venison and enjoyed it.

Many plants sense when they are being attacked (harvested/nibbled upon et cetera), respond defensively, and send signals to other nearby plants so that they can also respond defensively. That sounds like feeling and acting to me. I can't say what counts as "thinking."

Not just babies. I'd be willing to bet that around 2/3 of the world population isn't sentient. Unless Flake speaks Chinese or something. Then it might only be half.

我当然会说中文。

So that's a lot less people who need to be worrying.

If anything, eating vegetables is less humane than eating meat. At least meat is dead when you cook and eat it. A nice crispy carrot is still very much alive.

IMO, the real moral problem with meat is not the killing aspect. It's the inhumane conditions that come with factory farming. Still, I like meat too much to go without it. I do try and cook vegetarian once or twice a week and buy from the farmers market as much as I can afford. I don't worry about it too much though, it's one of the smaller ethical problems involved in living in industrialized western society.
