This is my preferred way to play DS. The screen is very clear and bright, it feels comfortable for the most part, and it plays both DS and GBA games (if only it played GB games! Good them it is emulate well).
I own three DS lites (white, grey and pink, if anyone cares). I have zero urge to get one of the other DS models and am not interested in the 3DS yet. It not being region free makes me less interested than I otherwise would have been.

Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
Glad to see you found one. I was actually going to ask if they were region-locked. I know you prefer NTSC-J stuff though, so this is probably for the best.Inazuma wrote:Damn. It looks like it's long since been discontinued in Japan. I can't find a DS Lite anywhere. I checked 3 different online stores and also Ebay. Actually, there was ONE on ebay but it was Pink. I am really amazed at how hard it is to find them.
When it comes to handheld systems, I prefer to buy them new. If I buy them used, they tend to have scratches on the screen.

Nevermind. I found a nice one.
Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
Pretty sure all regions are identical for the DS Lite. However for the DSi and above, there is a difference in the built in software. I still prefer to get the Japanese system, even if it's just for the packaging and manual. My DS Fat is American though, because I got that back when I didn't understand Japanese.Ack wrote:Glad to see you found one. I was actually going to ask if they were region-locked. The US and Japanese models are exactly the same. Of my three DS lites, one is Japanese and two are from Canada (same as US). The only difference is in the packaging and that the language is set to Japanese on the DS lite by default (that you can easily change to English or whatever). The Japanese packaging is smaller, which is nice in a way.

Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
Does Amazon.com also do discount on the discontinued hardware? Maybe I should buy a Cobalt Blue DS Lite to keep my Crimson Red one company (that, and I want to be able to continue using my rumble pack and my DS Lite is starting to show signs of use).

Fuel for the fire, let the banter begin.
Why is it even the new portables have a firmware issue, give me a GBA and PS2 any day!

Nintendo 3DS errors plaguing multiple games
As we reported earlier today, there are numerous accounts of 3DS games locking up. Again, the message above is what many people are getting. According to the emails I've been receiving, there is no one game that is causing the error. I've seen it crop up with Super Monkey Ball 3D, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, Rayman 3D and others. Let's hope this doesn't have something to do with the 3DS itself, but instead, the quickly-developed launch games. Thanks to JaniN for the pic!

Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
So the Japanese DS Lite that I recently ordered from http://www.japanvideogames.com/ arrived today.
One problem, it's not Japanese. It's actually a Chinese region system, complete with Taiwan box and manual in full Chinese. I am returning it to them and I will buy a DS Lite from someone who doesn't lie to me.
So the quest for a new Japanese DS Lite continues...

So Chinese DS's aren't NTSC? So what are they, PAL or SECAM?Inazuma wrote:So the Japanese DS Lite that I recently ordered from http://www.japanvideogames.com/ arrived today.

Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
PAL according to wiki, though I don't think that applies to the DS, since it's portable. Don't forget that Inazuma already said he wants a Japanese one even though you can just change the language on a US DS Lite to Japanese and it'll be the same.

Re: DS Lite to be discontinued?
Exactly. All regions of DS Lite are identical but if I order a Japanese region one, I expect to get just that. My Japanese language skills aren't perfect but I will read Japanese manuals sometimes if I want to. If the manual is all Chinese, it's nearly useless to me.MrPopo wrote:PAL according to wiki, though I don't think that applies to the DS, since it's portable. I just ordered a white color DS Lite from Amazon Japan, along with Ni no Kuni. (^_^)
Ni no Kuni trailer for those who haven't heard of it. It comes with a huge book that you use to cast spells with. Pretty cool.
