Gaming Globes

Post by jfrost »

Kayin, creator of I Wanna Be The Guy, observing that RPG maps don't make a whole lot of sense when laid out on a sphere, tried to do exactly that.

It's pretty cool. He made globes of Final Fantasy I, IV, V, VI (both World of Balance and Ruin), Dragon Quest III, Seiken Densetsu 2, 3, and Terranigma.

It's a bit heavy, 25 MB if you want to watch it in the browser: http://kayin.pyoko.org/gameglobes/3d/

He also made a Windows executable available if anyone wants:

Sorry for the huge pic, it's the one Kayin posted on his blog and I didn't feel like resizing and re-uploading it.

Nice find! Thanks for that. The music is a nice touch. It's cool how it fades away the further away the globe gets.

Seiken Densetsu 2 is kind of interesting because the game actually let you render the world map on a globe.

Cool! This goes in the same directory as Ficedula's Reeve FF7 world map viewer. Thanks!
