Stupidity comes with age?

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

I've recently begun playing Super Smash Brothers on the N64 again. I've noticed that the computer players act a bit less... intelligent than they used to, especially in Saffron City- they run directly into the open pokemon door and don't stop. I don't remember this being an issue when I last played it a few years ago. Does age cause the artificial intelligence to become less intelligent?

In the sense that you are older and wiser, yes. Yes it does

The AI was always that stupid. When playing against Pikachu in arcade mode, it was painfully easy to stall, wait for him to go towards the door, and eat Electrode, earning you the Pacifist achievement and giving you a huge boost in score.

That stage has always had pathetic AI. Once in the single player mode Pikachu jumped straight into the pit. I won that match in 8 seconds.

Yeah, the original smash didn't have the best AI in the first place.

Likely you just forgot how bad it was after years of not playing.

Fun game, broken AI.

It seems like I remember figuring out how to make pikachu do that something like 75% of the time, and I also saw Giant DK immediately drop through the floor to his death once.

While the AI in later entries is much improved, the AI's in Brawl have no idea what they're doing on custom stages.

The AI deteriorating with age is about as possible as a game having dust specks and dirt on the picture because it's old, or the colors fading on an old DOS game. It's physically impossible, digital data doesn't change with time; it either works, or it doesn't at all.
