Re: What are your favorite TV Shows? Which can't you stand?
Gotta give some love for Fringe and Supernatural and add my thoughts as to why
Caught another episode of Supernatural this week. I have to really praise this show for asking lots of big questions and raising the stakes and scope of the show every season. It started out as a show about two guys hunting demons and ghosts. From there it became a show about whether or not death can be avoided and reversed. Whether or not there are consequences to that. What are demons? Is there a God? Does he still care? Can he die? Are angels all good? What is hell really like? Can you stop fate? What happens if you do? How do all of the various gods, religions, and belief systems fit into the world? Is the apocalypse for real? How will it play out when it happens? Can it be stopped? Is there a heaven? If there is why do we care if people die? Do the supernatural things the protagonists fight exist simply because people believe in them? Who the hell decides when people die? Who writes the script for reality? Who decides when god's time is up? What happens when angels stop caring about people and start caring about power? What happens when heaven is in chaos and angels are at war? What happens when you lose your soul and what happens when a soul gets quite literally damaged?
Then you add in all the meta stuff they do where they get to make fun of their own fans and actors and it's makes for a pretty thought provoking and brilliant show
That and Fringe are two of the most brilliant things I have been watching lately. I like how Fringe takes a tired sci fi concept-parallel universes-and injects some new life into it by essentially making Fringe TWO shows. They have been jumping back and forth between telling stories in our reality and in the alternate reality. BRILLIANT
Two of my fave shows on tv right now

I lost track of Fringe when it was in its thursday night spot. But now it's on Fridays. I saw the finale with Olivia trapped by Walternate but haven't seen season 3. I think I'll get it when it comes to DVD and start watching again in fall.

It just got renewed for another season too! In the Friday night death slot of all places!Jrecee wrote:I lost track of Fringe when it was in its thursday night spot. But now it's on Fridays. On freaking Fox!
Definitely a good idea to get caught up on season 3. Fringe is starting to become a little more in depth and having knowledge of what has happened before is recommended.

I cannot stand Deal or No Deal. It's fucking annoying, pardon my French. I just don't understand how people have superstitions about picking the boxes... and the way they take it seriously. They came with nothing, and could leave with more. Guaranteed.
I dislike British soaps too: they are wrist-slittingly depressing.
On the other hand I only really watch older programmes, like Sharpe, Bottom, Curb Your Enthusiasm and others.

In Eastenders on New Years Eve, the happiest night of the year filled with drink, food and mirth, one of the characters baby died in his cot. The mother swapped the dead baby with a supposedly 'identical' living baby. It's messed up.BoringSupreez wrote:I've never watched a British soap opera; how are they depressing?Markell1991 wrote:I dislike British soaps too: they are wrist-slittingly depressing.

And then Boringsupreez made a mental note never to watch a British sitcom ever.Markell1991 wrote:In Eastenders on New Years Eve, the happiest night of the year filled with drink, food and mirth, one of the characters baby died in his cot.
