hey guys, i was thinking of picking up a gamecube. Gmestops got a buy 2 get 2 free deal for certain games today and i went around to all the ones in the area getting a bunch of Ps2/GC and some GBA games. Since theyre only 30 bucks and count as one of the things you can buy twords a free game i figured i may pick one up instead of just using my wii all the time. Its just about the only system i dont have
I was just wondering if theres a specific model i should be looking for. I know with things like the genesis theres quite a difference between the models, witht he originals actually being the best, so i figured id check if theres anything like that here. I had heard that the earlier made in Japan ones are better built than the later Made in China ones. I also heard some of them dont have an AV multi out and cant do component. Anyone know what i should look for when grabbing one or are they all really the same?
I probably need to get it this afternoon so hopefully i get some responses today. Thanks
Buying a gamecube?
Re: Buying a gamecube?
NTSC U model 'cubes don't have a lot of variety in terms of hardware.
Look for one with the digital out port on the back in case you ever decide to upgrade to component.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

if you plan on using component cables, than you need to find one that has a port on the back that says DIGITAL OUT. But be warned, GameCube component cables were proprietary, and rare... so expect to pay at least twice as much for the cable as the Cube.
BUT remember, the Cube can play GB, GBC and GBA games via the additional Game Boy Player. The Wii can't do that.

Re: Buying a gamecube?
ya the GBA player thing is one of the reasons im seriously considering it. Im actually not sure how it works i gotta look it up, i just thought it may be cool to play gba games on the tv. Im asuming its a peripheral like the old game boy player was for the SNES right?
I do indeed want to have component out as an option so thats something to consider.. did only the later ones have that digital out port? Is there any quality or internal difference between the earlier Made in Japan models VS the later China ones?
hmm kinda sucks that the cables might be expensive. I usually only buy 1st party ones anyway i guess i better look around online to see what i should expect to spend on it. I do notice that some games let me do progressive when played on the wii.. do they do that on the gamecube as well through component, or is that an upscaling feature of just the wii?
So is really just a 'digital out' slot all i need to look for?
*edit* lol @ the nindo does comment =P

no, only the EARLY models had digital out. They removed it when they realized nobody was really using it back then. The Game Boy Player is like $10 at GameStop. Just make sure it comes with the boot disc. Trust me. You want this accessory. A lot of us use our Cubes as GB-consoles more than as Cubes.

Quoted for emphasis. I have 4 'cubes and 3 gameboy players. The only system in my house of many systems that gets even half as much gameplay as my 'cube army is my dreamcast.noiseredux wrote:no, only the EARLY models had digital out. The cube + GB player just gives you THAT huge a library to choose from. That's like 2 and a half decades of software.
