If it's wired in parallel, four batteries means about double the batter life for a controller vs just two. More in the case of wireless controllers, is almost always better.

Yeah but I have three wavebirds. If you only have one wireless controller, 4 batteries isn't bad but I don't want to use 12 batteries when I want to get some Mario Kart on.

I had a thrustmaster way back when, halfway decent Wavebird replacement, but the blue LEDs got to me. One thing that boggles my mind is that third party wireless controllers always seem to have some god awful dongle. Whats the deal with that? Why can they make anything as clean or elegant as the wavebird...
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

I just came across a good alternative by luck. I just got a GC/PS2 adapter in a bundle deal. I tried it with the 1st and 2nd gen wireless Logitech PS2 controller and it worked perfectly on Advance Wars.

EDIT: I had only tried it with the game boy player and it worked. I just tried it on NBA 2K3 and it does not work with that.

Actually, it only takes two to run the controller, and the other two are tied to the controller's hand-cooling fan.

But the controller is in the PSx orientation and not the GC orientation, which makes it weird for Metroid Prime.

Wait, it has a fan inside the controller?!

Yeah, it's a NYKO trademark AirFlo. (Only video I found about it was on Viddler.)

Here's what the wired PC controller looks like. (Wired Gamecube version)
Here's the wireless version (PS2/XBOX/PC/GC) (image obscures the huge-ass battery encasement)

The GameCube versions seem to be the hardest to find though.
