Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
Not bad, but you've got room to grow. It's hard to beat box without any effects processing and sound good though. The Gary Glitter audience participation was fun though.
I'm always beatboxing in the shower and when I'm walking around the house and stuff. I can do some of the humming and beatboxing like you do. I'm not in any shape to perform in my opinion though. I would love to get to where I sound like this guy:

Agreed, and please take what I say as only encouragement. If you are serious about this, get out of a classroom and see if anyone in a club would applaud you. If this is just for shits and giggles, you should use the classroom performances to your advantage. Not sure if there is a niche market for classroom beatboxers, but who knows?J T wrote:Not bad, but you've got room to grow.
Best of luck.
Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
Thanks for the honest feedback. This was more a comedy routine to get people laughing because of the audience I was playing to. I was disappointed that some of the more subtle sounds I was making weren't picked up by the mic.
With that said, yeah I'm not too serious about it. I beatbox about 20 minutes a day on average...been doing it on and off since I was about 14 (now 26). I get a little better here and there, pick up a new sound and what not. It's a fun party trick, but I doubt I'll play before any clubs.
Loved the Russian beatboxer you linked me to JT. I'm amazed at what some folks can do. You've probably seen this guy, but I love his routine here:

Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
The first time beatboxing ever really blew my mind was Rahzel's "If Your Mother Only Knew". When I heard that, it was like "Oh shit! Is that for real?!?!" It's funny because like every beat boxer I've heard since then, including the guy you posted, always do Rahzel and Kenny Mohammad's 4-elements routine. It's become like gospel to beatboxers. At the time Rahzel's album released, I just bought it because I liked The Roots and I knew he beat boxed with them. But as soon as I listened through the CD, especially the hidden tracks, I knew Rahzel was something special.
I saw him live a few years after his album came out and he did "If your mother only knew" and people were loving it. He stopped and talked about how everyone has been trying to copy him with that song and everyone's trying to prove they're better then him, so he said he was going to turn it up a notch and do the beat, the chorus... and the baseline at the same time. He started mimicking a standup bass.... dropped in drums to the mix... and then the singing part. Man, the audience just BLEW UP! I've never heard such a huge reaction. We were all just amazed. That guy is a legend.

Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
I don't know shit about beat boxing so I wont pretend to.
But I thought it was pretty good.
Personal pet hate.
Stuff like this annoys me somewhat, just put stuff out there, if people like it, they will watch it, tell there friends and it will get views, you shouldn't make something or upload something with the ambition to reach milestones like that.(Trying to get to 10,000 views.)
Personal pet hate.
Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
Another guy I really like is Kid Beyond, who loops his beats with the aid of Ableton Live and some MIDI foot switches:
Though he can also rock some mean beats without the aid of technology as well:
He is absolutely MAD to see live.

Re: Harvey's Beatboxing Skills
Here's another favorite:
Dub FX: "Step On My Trip"
He also loops his beatboxing and uses processing effects.
In case you can't tell, I like beatboxing.

I like the fact the kid has ambition and goals. Stop drinking the haterade.
