Is there a problem with the screen of my PSP 3000?

Post by Satoshi_Matrix »

Hey guys, I bought a PSP 3000 the other day. I really love it, but I've noticed something I don't think is right with the screen. When the screen goes completely black, there's a weird lighter than black area that covers most of the outer part of the screen. Before I take it back, I want to make this this is some sort of problem with my particular PSP and not all the 3000 models. I tried my best to take a picture of it and this was the best I could manage.

So yeah, is this normal? A way to correct it in the options? It seems almost patterned. There's nothing wrong with the screen otherwise. Thanks for any help.

That's normal. The screen on the PSP-3000 is the worst of all the iterations. What you've noticed is pretty small in the scope of issues with that screen.

I have the Kindom hearts collectors edition psp 3000 and I looked at my screen on the same screen and mine looks shaded but is still a rectangle and does not have rounded edges.

I really had to look at mine to see it, it's that minimal. I never even knew it was shaded untill I looked to compare it to your pic.

Yeah thats normal. While i don't have the exact same problem, i have experienced this in the form of a small circular area (about half the size of a dime). as far as i read, this has to do with a pressure that was applied earlier by myself. im not sure the screen was your fault though as others have had this issue right from the getgo..as said before the 3000 isn't the best iteration of the psp's. best to do is ignore it. while playing a game, usually it's extreamly hard to notice.

I love my 3000 model. I think the brighter colors more than make up for the weird shadows (which I only really notice when I start up the system, never in a game).

The interlacing (lines) issue doesn't even bother me; it's that or ghosting anyways.

Wouldn't mind a 2000 model too, but I'm just saying that I'm happy with what I've got and there's pros and cons to everything.

What the what?! The PSP-3000 screen is the BEST of all iterations... what are you talking about? Wow.

As for the weird lighter black area... I can not recall my PSP doing that... but I'll take a close look tonight to make sure.

I will tell you right now it's meant to be a shaded area, I looked at my friends psp 2000 and his had the same lighter shaded area around the screen, which I had to look for too.

My PSP 3000 looks better than his 2000, the colors are more vibrant I see no ghosting on my psp 3000 but I see it on his playing the same game???

I think this is a bit of an exaggeration, but the PSP 3000 does have some issues with it's screen. They're mostly just from a technical stand point though, and certainly won't affect or lower the quality of the gameplay or display to any noticeable/hindering levels. The increased brightness outweighs all of the other complaints to my eyes.

Yeah, I had that too, it came out of the box like that in fact when I got it. Promptly sold it and got another 1k. Still the best built, most comfortable PSP out there. With the extended battery kit, battery life is a non-issue as well now.

PSP 3k's screen is an interlaced, shadowy, over saturated mess.

@darth_blunted No, thats not supposed to be a shaded area, some PSP 2k's had the same problem, albeit to a lesser extend than the 3k. Also vibrant doesn't = accurate. Some early PSP games look absolutely terrible on the 3k because all the colours are oversaturated.

As a general rule, the PSP 2k had the best screen. Although, it shared some of the flaws of the 3k, they weren't nearly as noticeable.
