Help me name this SFC/SNES game (puzzle fighter genre)

Post by Sidd »

I remember playing this game way back when and loving it but I cannot remember the name of it for the life of me. It was so long ago it's possible this was a Super Famicom/SNES or PS1 game as well. I asked in the Sony forum but no one recalls such a game. I played a lot of import games so if this was a games I played on my SNES, it could be a Super Famicom title so bare that in mind.

It was a puzzle fighting game, sort of like Super Puzzle Fighter where player 1 is on the left side, 2 is on the right side, then each player needs to guide their puzzle pieces downwards. As each player matched rows, they would each increase their special move bar, once it reached a certain level they could unleash their special move against the other player by pressing a button, the special move would mess up the other player's puzzle pieces. When the special move was executed, the gameplay would stop and you'd see the other player's puzzle get messed up by the special move (example is below). You still have no clue right?

Okay so here's something distinctive I remember about the game which could help someone remember what game it is. There were multiple characters you could select to be like how you choose your character in Street Fighter 2, each character had a different special move. Of those characters, I remember one being a ninja and another being a vampire/dracula-like character. For the dracula character, when you did his special move bats flew over to the other side and messed up their opponents puzzle. I believe the ninja special move animation involved ninja stars being thrown???

Does this ring any bells for anyone? Thanks for any help!

Sorry about the multiple topics as I wasn't sure which platform this game was, mods please close the Sony one.

I think I found the game by sure luck by googling and going through a bunch of youtube videos. The game I was thinking of was Tetris Battle Gaiden. It goes to show how fogged up my memory is of this game as there was no vampire/dracula character, it was actually a Pumpkin headed character as seen in this youtube video:

He does have a special move involving bats as can be seen at the 2:40 mark of that video, that's what sealed the deal for me as I still wasn't sure that was the game I was thinking about until I saw that. I was right about the ninja character though as you can see him here:

Once I found out the name, I found an article from this very site describing the game:

Now to get my hands on this game. This is a really addictive, fun game especially for two players. There's something deeply satisfying about performing those special moves on your opponent and totally screwing up their side. I HIGHLY recommend getting hold of this game if you haven't played it, it's a blast!
