Happy to hear you got it working!

If you like genesis games at all, be sure you get Picodrive as well.

On that topic, ever get Sega CD games working with Picodrive? I tried just about everything and can't get it to work on my PSPgo

I never got it to work, though last I tried was on my Phat in 2009.

Lol I've been out of the PSP hacking scene awhile. I had heard of HEN firmware but didn't know u didn't need a pandora to flash them anymore. My fat is running 5.00 M33-3. Is it possible to upgrade it to one of these new HEN firmwares easily? Sounds kinda neat. I used to use Magic Memory stick maker.

It's quite simple actually, but to do so, you'll have to update to firmware 6.20 at least. Keep in mind that with the current HENs, you can trick the system to run any updater, so if you are unhappy with the hen, you can downgrade to 5.00, but you'll need the magic stick and pandora to install the CFW after you downgrade to 5.00 OFW

Is 6.20 a CFW? Just wondering. Also I'm wondering if my emulators will still work right.

Well, first off, you have to update to 6.20 OFW, then you can run the 6.20 CFW on it. You cannot run the 6.20 CFW on anything lower than the 6.20 OFW.

I'm not quite clear on the difference between CFW and HEN. Is the following correct? CFW is flashed to the PSP where it is run automatically upon boot. HEN is an application that runs on OFW and launches CFW (from a memory stick?).

Why would one want an HEN when there is CFW, if the purpose of the HEN is just to launch the CFW? Is there a table anywhere that compares the features of various versions of CFWs and HENs and whatever else? Are there still versions of OFW that are not hackable?

Edit: I did a little googling, apparently the most recent HENs or CFWs don't even run PSX games? I had that working on 5.00 firmware, why the regression?

That is a little outdated, as current HENs can run PSX games.

You are correct in the assumption that HENs are not flashed to memory, and that is part of the beauty of it. The CFW can mess up during the flash process, and end in a bricked PSP, while the HEN is loaded into memory, resulting in builds that disappear when the system is powered off.

Here is my take on the matter:
CFW, updated rarely, permanent, proven to work
HEN, updated actively, easy to roll back, more functionality to those with a newer PSP.

With CFW, you need to have an older PSP firmware, and be pandora accessible to flash. HEN offers everything that the CFW does, but runs on ALL firmwares, builds and flavor without too much hassle. May not apply to everyone, but the fact you can roll back to the OFW easily is a plus for me, as I to actively buy games on the PSN.

Overall, it's a thing of choice. There are a few newer titles that stuggle to play on an older CFW PSP due to the firmware limitations that can play on a HEN without issue, but the gap is not larger enough to merit choosing one over the other.

EDIT: Oh yeah, even bigger reason for me is that I have a PSPgo. Only way I can play Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep on it is with the HEN and a ISOloader
