Aren't you the same guy who's stated many times that he pirates games with DRM?

Let's back up a bit. Let's say that with the release of firmware X Sony removes Other OS. You need to have the latest firmware to be on the PSN but thanks to a court case all new releases would still work on the old firmware. Would you still be raising a total stink? Are you going to claim that Sony doesn't have the right to disallow people from accessing their online service who don't follow the rules they put forth?

That's not quite the point. It's Sony's online service that's in question.
Doesn't matter about PSN. Don't care about that. It's the fact that in order to keep playing new games you MUST update. Updating loses Linux functionality. Not updating loses the ability play new games/blurays (AKA what you bought the system for). Lose/Lose.

You really are clueless..
Also, take a second and look up the term 'homebrew'. You'll find it has nothing to do with piracy. It's okay, Sony doesn't understand the concept either, and assumes all people running emulators and other 'unofficial' applications are pirating their precious God of Wars and Gran Turismos.

So it's ok, ajsracket, you can expose yourself now:

Life happens, you can cry about it or you can adapt and overcome. I don't live with a sense of entitlement that makes me think my shit don't stink. EVERYONE gets fucked over now and then, but for people to bitch about the "grand master evil corporation" is stupid. Those EVIL empires are the ones who give you something to do with your obvious excess of free time. Yet you still cry. TRUST ME, the world has much bigger problems to solve than sony removing something from their system that LEADS to damage to theri profits. Typical of posts on the internet, everyone wants something for nothing

Aha - the answer! I am an asshole - not a moron! This has already been established, so I can breathe easily. Niode had me wondering...
Inazuma wrote: Anonymous has my full support. I've always liked their group and this recent attack on Sony is good to see. It's nice to see someone standing up for consumer rights for once!
There are good ways and bad ways to stand up for consumer rights. Anon is a horrible way.

If it wasn't clear in my last post, I do think that Sony's removal of things is bullshit - but they are within their rights and the TOS you agree to when you hook the machine up to the PSN. If you don't like it, don't use the PSN.

Now whether those TOS should hold up for the courts to decide, and until someone gives me some relevant legal talking points here, this is all just a posturing and circle jerking. Inazuma, you are certainly passionate about this but your decision to want to frame everything in moral terms really misses the point completely.

you know, that would be a lot fairer, and from what I can gather, is what MS is doing (correct me if I'm wrong on this one).

But the thing is (at least here), free PSN access is an advertised feature, if you don't do something illegal (like hack your console), sony has no right to remove it. In other words, it's not what to do after Other OS and PSN support for unupdated systems was/is removied, it's that this shouldn't have happened in the first place. Too bad Niode ain't rich, cause he would have taken them to court by now

Seriously, buyers rights have been fucked up by EULA and bullshit like that (how can an EULA apply to ALL countries is beyond me, seeing how different laws are from country to country), but no one has taken them to court yet. Don't forget that some time ago, corporations could sell you poison food, and you wouldn't be entitled to a compensation check. Just cause we have (or should I say had?) more rights than before, doesn't mean we live in a fully just world.

I'd like to hear how a company can enable homebrew on their device without allowing piracy.

Do you get down on your knees begging the super market owner to sell you food? No, cause you're the one keeping him in business, so he's the one who should be on his knees begging you to buy from his store.

btw the "Do you.... super market owner" was originally full of profanity.

Releasing amateur development kits and then the homebrew developers could send what they make to Sony to digitally sign it? Of course this demands a capital (which can be made by charging people a small amount for signing their software, or publishing on PSN the stuff they like), and (harder to get) forward thinking executives.

I doubt anyone at sony is losing sleep if you or anyone else is pissed. Sony should beg you? Who the fuck are you, royalty? Sony doesn't owe you anything

And as far as a store owner, they probably don't give a shit if you shop elsewhere because for everyone who leaves someone else takes their place. It's called FREEDOM OF CHOICE. I CHOSE to have a ps3, and i enjoy it for what it is. When i feel like playing something else, i go into my man cave and hook up nes, genesis, neo geo, whatever.
