GCN Wavebird Alternatives?
GCN Wavebird Alternatives?
Just curious -- are there any wireless Gamecube controllers that are nearly as good as the Wavebirds?

I've never had any luck with 3rd party GameCube controllers.
Say... Why don't you see if Nintendo will supply you with some brand new Wavebirds?

Absolutely not. No 3rd party ever achieved anything even near similar.racketboy wrote:Just curious -- are there any wireless Gamecube controllers that are nearly as good as the Wavebirds?

I wish they would just sell more at retail. But I guess they think the Wii Classic Controller is good enough.Opa Opa wrote:Say... Why don't you see if Nintendo will supply you with some brand new Wavebirds?

Re: GCN Wavebird Alternatives?
The Wavebird was great, but it's lack of rumble kinda makes it pale in comparison to the Logitech equivalents made for the PS2 and Xbox. Also the Wavebird still uses the same d-pad as the AGB-001 GBA. It's way way too small. Still, gotta give credit where its due. The Wavebird was a bit ahead of its time being a first party Nintendo controller.

The best alternative to a Platinum Wavebird is a Gray Wavebird, likewise the opposite is true.
You could get the Official Pearl White Gamecube controller from Amazon. Nintendo released them for when SSB Brawl came out so they would match the Wii, but they're just standard Gamecube controllers with a much longer cable.racketboy wrote:I wish they would just sell more at retail. Re: GCN Wavebird Alternatives?
Well, there's the T-Wireless/Thrustmaster:
I have one and really like it for the most part. Its main feature is the ability to swap buttons (which is a godsend for Mega Man Collection).
Makes for a good alternative to the Wavebird.
--Edit--
I should mention that it is smaller than a GC controller and is not quite as comfortable to hold. But you get used to it.

Why do you need a alternative? They are only $18 if you can find them at a Gamestop. There are so many still floating around in my area that I only buy them if they are absolutely mint. I have at least six or seven of them.

I was always curious about that model. It runs on a single AAA battery if I am not mistaken.nightrnr wrote:Well, there's the T-Wireless/Thrustmaster

Unfortunately from those Amazon reviews, they make it sound like the d-pad wears out after only a few months.
I own an apparently rare NYKO AirFlo wireless game... thing. I love the fact that NYKO makes these for most systems. It looks exactly like their PS2 version only colored differently. (It even as a mirrored "Z" button.)
The big advantages are that it's large, familiar and comfortable. The big disadvantage is that it eats 4 AAs, which also make it hefty.
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.
