So I recently acquired a Sega Genesis 2 and Sega CD unit. It worked, but after I moved a month ago, it doesn't seem to power up any more. The Genesis will work fine, but the CD unit seems dead. There are two power supplies, 35W and 18W. I now know that the 18W one is for the CD unit. It's not possible that I could've burned it out by getting the AC adapters switched, could I?
I have a friend who is an EET graduate from DeVry. He modded my Gamecube and I'm going to have him replace all the capacitors on my Turbo Duo. Is a shorted power supply something that could also get fixed?

Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
Does anyone you know have a spare power supply that you can try?
If it's not the power supply you might just have a burned out fuse in the sega cd. Pretty common problem and an easy fix.

Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
I have extra power supplies. I own a Genesis 1 and a Genesis 3, in fact. If it's a burned out fuse, then I'll ask my friend to replace it for me (known as undamned, only has posted once on this forum). I'm in the process of buying this Sega CD from my friend (specineff on here), so I hope I can get this to work!scott33 wrote:Does anyone you know have a spare power supply that you can try?

Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
The Genesis 1 power supplies are compatible with the Sega CD (but not the Genesis 2's ..and i don't think the Genesis 3's either).
So, try giving one of the Genesis 1 power supplies a try with the Sega CD and if you're still getting nothing then it's most likely the fuse.
This link should help you or your friend to locate it and replace it:

Awesome. Thank you so much, especially for the link.

Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
No problem! I had to do the same thing to my sega cd a few months back. After replacing that fuse it's worked flawlessly.
Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
I have repaired on of those in the past too,if i remember correctly i repaired the unit using the appropriate fuse wire.
Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
I put in a fuse holder (one that can mount to the back of the unit). So, if it happens again in the future it's just a matter of switching out the fuse.
Re: Help! Sega CD has a dead power supply
Thanks, guys! My friend Specineff fixed it! We went to Fry's Electronics and couldn't find any identical fuses, so he jury-rigged it. We got a package of those glass fuses, got some fuse clamps to solder the wires to, and used an old telephone wire to attach it to. It works! We played some Snatcher and Lunar and it works great. Again, thanks for that link, Scott.

Great, glad you got it working!
