Virtual Boy Games on Nintendo 3DS
Re: Virtual Boy Games on Nintendo 3DS
Has anyone yet made the 'who the fuck would pay money for digital copies of 95% of the games on the Virtual Boy?' argument yet? 'Cos I think that bears mentioning.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?
Re: Virtual Boy Games on Nintendo 3DS
Interesting question, but I echo the sentiments of everything everyone else has already said, and I am a Virtual Boy fan/collector.
Who would buy it? Other than myself that is. I doubt my 13 yr old kid brother was was born 3 years after the Virtual Boy came out, saved up all his Christmas money to buy a 3DS, and pre-orders every new Pokemon game 6-months in advance (exaggeration) would care at all. I trained him well, but he's still gonna spend his Nintendo bucks on whatever is "the coolest new game everyone's gotta have." I feel like he represents a big part of th 3DS demographic, especially at such an early part of it's lifespan.
I'm sure anyone reading this thread is the exception to the rule, but Nintendo needs to move units and convince people this is a worthy upgrade from their current DSliteXLAdvanceSPPlayitLoud (yes I'm bitter). Resurrecting the memory of a system that was a huge failure and still an embarrassment, is NOT what they need. It took Nintendo 16 years to come back to 3D, I'm sure that's on purpose. Gunpei Yokoi designed the friggin' Game Boy, and Nintendo still let him take the brunt of the Virtual Boy blame. Nintendo doesn't need or want anyone to associate the 3DS with the Virtual Boy.
[/rant]
Wow, so I apparently have a lot of feelings regarding this topic, sorry everyone.
All that being said, I still think it could happen, but not anytime soon, and it's probably not going to be considered until the console is established. I'll gladly eat my words if it does, as well as start saving up for a 3DS

Probably more people would buy Mario's Tennis, Wario Land and Mario Clash than some of the games that have previously come out on virtual console.Flake wrote:Has anyone yet made the 'who the fuck would pay money for digital copies of 95% of the games on the Virtual Boy?' argument yet? Re: Virtual Boy Games on Nintendo 3DS
don't take this the wrong way, but this is one of the reasons I hope the 3DS gets custom firmware. someone would be bound to make a virtual boy emulator for it. then I could finally play virtual boy games on the go. XD

Re: Virtual Boy Games on Nintendo 3DS
I remember them saying they would remake classic games in 3d for the VC. They will probably do this to the most popular virtual boy games. VB on VC in 3D

VB had several good games for it- Mario Clash, Wario Land, Telero-Boxer, and Red Alarm to name a few- it was just that the system itself was unplayable.Flake wrote:Has anyone yet made the 'who the fuck would pay money for digital copies of 95% of the games on the Virtual Boy?' argument yet? Which is why I said 95%. I know the VB had a couple of good games - but not enough to warrant making a custom emulator for VB games. Nintendo would never make its money back. Haven't they lost enough money on the virtual boy already?AmishSamurai wrote:VB had several good games for it- Mario Clash, Wario Land, Telero-Boxer, and Red Alarm to name a few- it was just that the system itself was unplayable.Flake wrote:Has anyone yet made the 'who the fuck would pay money for digital copies of 95% of the games on the Virtual Boy?' argument yet? Actually, I was thinking about this, and button mapping may be an issue. You have six buttons, but two d-pads. so d-pad left would have to be either the default pad or the joypad, d-pad right is ABXY, L and R remain where they are, select and start keep those. A and B could be buttons on the bottom screen I suppose, since with the VB all games would be exclusively topscreen because of the 3d.

EDIT: From Wikipedia:
When asked if Virtual Boy games were going to be available for download on the Virtual Console for the Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime told Kotaku that he couldn't answer, as he was unfamiliar with the platform.
"As a consumer, I have experience with every Nintendo platform and, I think every accessory, including the Superscope, with the exception of the Virtual Boy... so it's difficult for me to articulate a point of view back to our parent company [in Japan] why we absolutely have to have a Virtual Boy store"
