Like everyone else I can only really suggest games if you have a DS lite because I have never found one I liked for the DS. The GBA on the other hand has a lot of good racing games.

Colin McRae Advance and the GT series are my some of my favorite handheld racing games of all time. I just recently found out about the save option on the Japanese version of the first GT Advance. If you can find the Japanese version of it the save feature is built in like all the newer games in the series. I always loved the first one but hated dealing with the password for saving the game so I quit playing it. You also get a few awesome "Engrish" translations since 99% of the game is in English for some reason.

I have a DS lite (as well as two GBMs and a GB Player) so yeah, I'm able to play GBA games.

It's a bit sad for the DS though when you ask for game recommendations and what you get are games for the previous generation.

Looks like I'm back hunting for GBA games then. Thanks for the recommendations guys!

Yeah it kinda is. It's very shocking that there's bugger all racing games for the DS. It seems like all Nintendo devices have a neglected genre. The N64 has a distinct lack of fighting games. The DS has a lack of racing games. The Wii has a lack of puzzle games (seriously, wtf? It's a casual console, puzzle games should be it's bread and butter).

Aren't the puzzle games on Wiiware? I bought Tetris which I thought was a good version and I know Dr Mario is quite popular as well. The puzzle situation on Wii doesn't seem as bad as racing games on the DS

Even though it's the only Nintendo console with six face buttons on the controller.

Even though the bottom screen is great for a map or whatever else.

Exactly.

I don't really get it either. :|

They're on wiiware, so they might as well not exist for me. I don't buy anything from the Wii shop channel because I can't transfer any of my purchases to another system should mine go tits up. I'm definitely not paying Nintendo to do it for me...

Whats that MrHealthy, some actual DS recommendations? Cool!
GRID is pretty fun albeit flawed experience if you want a more simulation type experience.
Trackmania Turbo translated from the PC masterpiece to a handheld fairly well.
And as already mentioned, Speed Racer can be a fun distraction, though repetitive after a while.

Man, you shouldn't let a little thing like that make you miss out, especially when some simple homebrew solves that problem.

That's more like it! Totally checking those out. Thanks for the recommendations.

I haven't played it, but ATV Wild Ride was released recently and seems quite solid (Destructoid gave it an 8, Nintendo Power gave it a 7).

If you want to try it, though, just beware to not end picking up ATV: Quad Frenzy, which is one of the worst games ever.

I completely forgot about ATV Wild Ride. It is developed by Renegade Kid and they did the Dementium games, which I really enjoyed. I'll have to check out their ATV game, I'm sure it looks great graphically.
