I have the same set up I wanted to go the with model 1 but reliability is an issue. I have also had nothing but bad luck trying to find a decent Multi-Mega for a fair price.Hateshinai wrote:I have the model 2 setup complete with a 32X. I would prefer to have my Model 1 hooked up but I chose a model 2 Sega CD for reliability. A model 1 Genesis/Megadrive with a model 2 Sega CD looks weird and takes up about 3 square miles of shelf space. Not to mention the extra cables...
Which Sega 16-bit set up should I get?

Sega of Japan definitely had the talent and the balls though, despite their apparent xenophobia (which might more accurately be described as jealousy) and obvious shortcomings as businessmen. I think if Sega of America had been its own independent company, their console libraries would've been nothing but a sea of sports games and mascot-platformers. Don't get me wrong, Sega Technical Institute was wonderful, but for the most part Sega of America was a painfully boring company outside of their marketing practices... and don't even get me started on Bernie Stolar.Breetai wrote:That was exactly the problem, as I understand it. Sega of Japan was being way to hardheaded, arrogant and perhaps even racist. Sega of America was being bullied by SoJ at almost every corner.Thierry Henry wrote:A big problem with Sega, as I've understood it, was that the two divisions at the time- Sega of America and Sega of Japan, were simply out of sync or antipodal to each other in many ways.
The 32X debacle was just one example of that.
Sega screwed itself, in other words.
Anyway, I voted MegaDrive/CD 1 combo! I have that, and it just looks so damn cool... the tower look just gives the effect that you're playing on a real piece of machinery. Although the WonderMega is a gorgeous looking option and the single power cord is a God-send, I'm sure.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the CDX, since it's so compact, and that's what I have at home. Plus, if you want to be really cool you can take it on trips for music support as a (semi)portable CD player.
Aesthetically, the Wondermega looks the coolest.
In terms of video output, I'd definitely choose the Wondermega, since it's the only Mega Drive console that has S-Video output.

I run the 8/16-bit retro site TimeWarpGamer and if you want to follow the latest updates, check me out on Twitter.

The CDX was never released in Japan.timewarpgamer wrote:Personally, I'm a big fan of the CDX, since it's so compact, and that's what I have at home. Plus, if you want to be really cool you can take it on trips for music support as a (semi)portable CD player.
