I did the service order online it said the cost is 130 plus tax.
the box im recieving from them should be here in 4-5 days.

Ill keep this updated and i really hope they do replace my shell too because its pretty scratched up.

They just give you a like for like refurbished console. This is why you should back up your data before sending it to them.

They just give you a like for like refurbished console. This is why you should back up your data before sending it to them.

Since your PS3 is locked up, no worries. Even though the hard drive game saves are lost, you can redownload your past purchased download games at no extra charge. As long as the DRM games are still online that is. You'll get an identical model with a new shell. If there is a disc stuck inside, be sure to put a big note, you'll get that returned too.

You can track that UPS empty box online. Weird how it hops around the country.

Just another reason why the PS3 is such a pain in the arse. No ability to transfer HDD to another system since it's encrypted to that specific machine. At least with the 360, if you have RRoD you just send the machine and not the HDD. When you PS3 gets the YLOD you're basically screwed if you haven't done a backup.

yea i forgot to knock on wood. Because like a week or 2 prior to this post i was bragging how my 60g model still running like a champ.
