No, you can use the PS2's RGB with a SCART to component converter, you don't need a special TV for it.

I've used RGB SCART with a non Sony TV and it worked. Just not on DVDs (which makes the screen green. Gee thanks Sony...) but why would I watch DVDs on a PS2?

modchips FTW :P i can watch DVDs on my PS2 over component without it turning the screen green. not that i'd reccomend using the PS2 as a DVD player, waste of the laser's lifespan hehe.
