Games Beaten : 2011
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
Got all of the achievements in the 360 version of Pac-Man CE DX. Still gotta beat the rest of the game.
Re: Games Beaten : 2011
1. Crash Bandicoot: Warped! - PS1
2. Shatter - PS3
Crash Bandicoot: Warped was a pretty fun game. It has a lot of variety for a platformer. Some of the levels include racing and shooting minigames that are pretty well done. I did have a bit of a problem with the motorcycle racing level. The complete lack of AI combined with really stiff controls made it difficult (in the wrong way) to finish in first sometimes. Overall the game controls are decent, though I did find the controls to be a bit floaty compared to a Mario style platformer. Because the game likes to switch back and forth between going into the screen and side scrolling I had a few accidental deaths, but switching to using mostly the d-pad made the experience much better. The game was relatively easy, but getting 100% would be a beefy challenge. Maybe I will return to the game one day to try and finish it off.
I really enjoyed Shatter. It has that magical combination of fast paced action and totally relaxing zen gaming. The music, atmosphere and presentation is brilliant for a title of this type. I love games like this where you can turn the lights down, turn the music up and just zone out and have fun. Great after a stressful day at work.

01/15/11 Tatsunoko VS. Capcom - Wii
01/22/11 TMNT: The Hyperstone Heist - Genesis
01/30/11 A Boy and His Blob - Wii
02/01/11 Batman: The Brave and the Bold - Wii
02/26/11 Pier Solar - Genesis
03/26/11 Skies of Arcadia - DC
It took me just over 50 hours (in a span of 2 years - 25+ hours this month) to beat this game but man it was worth it. I thought the last couple of boss battles were easy except for an attack or two (the one where your characters use their best attacks against your own party) or maybe I spent too much time grinding...
Either way the game was great and I never realized how many characters/crew members I didn't get because of all the blank "update" pages during the credits.

Haven't had much time to play lately but I set aside an hour for SSFIV3D as soon as I picked it up. In a wacky way, this port nullifies a lot of my complaints about the proper home console versions of the game. I cannot complain so much about the artwork as 2D sprites would have made the amazing 3D effects impossible. There is also a lot more content to keep me coming back to the game - content that fills out what felt like a gap on the PS3 version.
That said...the 3DS is just not a comfortable way to play SF. A 6 button pad or arcade stick is my usual means of input. To have to play with a cramped 4 face button machine like the 3DS makes the game feel a bit clumsy and awkward.
Still, between the awesome graphics, the figurine mode, and the challenge modes I can see this being on my playlist for quite awhile.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

What's there to say about Megaman games that hasn't already been said. I really enjoyed playing this. It was a lot easier than I though it would be... until the final 3 battles. I really found it cheap to drop you at the final battle with those slow worms that you have to use to farm for energy. Then to die only to have to farm for energy again. My first attempt at beating the game was late at night, so I gave it a couple of tries then turned off the SNES. That was a mistake, not being able to use a password to get straight to the final 3 boss battles is ridiculous. Especially since going through the rest Sigma's fortress to get back there again is a piece of cake once you've done it once. I found it a chore to have to go all the way through just to get to the final battle and die again. That said, I did finally beat it. I'm just going to call it good and stay away from Megaman games for a while. This sort of stuff stresses me out too much. Now back to Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland...

Alright, I've put it off for long enough. I'll sum up each of these games in three sentences or less.
Half-Minute Hero is an EPIC game that takes you through various different modes which borrow from RPG history. You get thirty seconds to complete your objective in each of these modes, and it makes for some tense situations. I had the most fun with Hero 30 mode, and the amazing Hero 300 mode, which is the games insane finale.
Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins was a fun, but holy hell was it hard. I played through twice, and it actually wanted to make me play through a third time to collect a few rings that I had missed. I got what I wanted out of the game by beating it once, and didn't really feel the need to complete it 100% with all of the items.
Power Stone on the Power Stone Collection for PSP is a really good port, and a great fighter as well.
Power Stone 2 on the Power Stone Collection, however, is even better. The PSP controls actually didn't bother me on either game.
Darkstalkers Chronicles: Chaos Tower is the ultimate Darkstalkers game, and the PSP does it pretty good justice. The controls are decent considering they are on a handheld, and the overall experience is great for a few on the go rounds of Capcom fighting awesomeness.
Limbo was an absolute pleasure to play. The atmosphere and the mood that the game creates is nothing short of amazing, and the graphics are beautiful. The puzzles are just hard enough to keep things interesting, and the game kept me wanting to play.
American Dream is an odd little browser game where you trade 80's celebrities stocks, and use whatever money you earn to decorate your apartment with expensive crap. It kept me playing to the end, although it wasn't very long. It's also probably worth noting that I read that this was created by the same guy that did VVVVVV.
League of Evil is a great little platformer on the iPhone that reminded me a lot of Super Meat Boy. The controls are GREAT, which is really amazing considering how miserably other iPhone platformers fail in that department. It was really short, but totally worth playing if you get the chance.
New Bust-a-Move is more Bust-a-Move/Puzzle Bobble goodness, only on the iPhone. It's really polished, and the controls are easy to pick up. It's worth noting that I'm color blind and this game IS color blind player friendly, as it uses little symbols in the center of each different colored ball.
Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 was a great platformer. If you compare it to the first Rearmed game, its not quite as funny, and the character portraits aren't as great, but overall it is a fantastic game that should be played by any platformer enthusiast.
Marvel vs Capcom 3 is AMAZING. What more is there to say really? My soon to be four year old son actually loves playing it as well, and is a beast with his Hulk/Deadpool/Iron Man team.
Hard Corps: Uprising is a fantastic game, and I'm really glad that I stuck with it. I originally thought it was way too hard, but I kept playing and upgrading my character, and found that the game is really quite deep for a run 'n gunner. Don't let the new art style fool you, the game is a totally worthy installment in the Contra series.
World of Goo is a great puzzle game that really had me thinking outside the box the entire way through. It's like Lemmings evolved! There is nothing more satisfying than hearing all of the little Goo balls screaming "YIPEE!" when they finally make it to the pipe.
Super Street Fighter Turbo HD Remix brought back a ton of great childhood memories of playing Street Fighter II on the SNES with my dad. The new HD graphics are amazing, and the game still stands the test of time.
Marvel vs Capcom 2 is still a great game, even after playing the shit out of the third installment in the series. It actually seems like its even harder on XBLA than it was on the Dreamcast, but that could just be me.
Contra 4 is one of the hardest games I've ever played. TOTALLY frustrating, and TOTALLY unfair, but it was fun in the end.
Infinity Blade is an amazing iPhone game that plays like a medieval Punch-Out!! with RPG elements. It definitely has the best graphics that I've seen on the iPad. An absolute must have game,
Killzone 3 is the first PS3 game that I've ever played, and it was one hell of a way to be introduced! I'm not really big into FPS games, but this one was amazing. The cover mechanics are some of the best that I've ever seen in a game, and the enemy AI kept me on my toes the entire way through.
God of War: Chains of Olympus is a game that I really didn't get into at first. I tried picking it a while back but found it to be tedious... but I'm glad that I came back and put some real time into it! I really enjoyed the combat system, and the huge bosses and enemies kept me interested the whole time.
I'm currently playing Little Big Planet and Fable III, which are both amazing games. I'm going to start a new handheld game soon as well, which may end up being Retro Game Challenge, since I haven't finished every game on that one just yet.

Thoughts on the Game(s)
Half Life: Source, awhile ago I picked up HL on the PS2 for $5 and decided as I have never played it the whole way through I would try it on the PS2, the game is just garbage, the controls are shocking, even with a keyboard and mouse it was still shit, and I thought if I am using a Keyboard and mouse all ready I might as well swap over to the PC version, which I did, using the "Half-Life Source Enhanced" patch the game looks really good.
My biggest complaints about the game are 80% of it is indoors and how floaty it feels fighting the final boss was a pain in the ass.
I have finished HL2 and ep1 before, but I feel like playing them again before playing ep2, I might have to borrow The Orange Box on Xbox360 and play them through on that.

I hate you. I really want a 3DS, and I don't give a shit about the "cramped 4 face buttons" if I can play SSF4 in 3D.
Oh, well. When I get paid, I'm gonna put a 3DS on layaway.
Not beaten, but... recently got Parasite Eve on the PSP. Got killed by the freaky alligator monster in the swamp. Gonna try again. And if they ever do the movie, the first should be based on the novel, while the second is based on the first game. Screw PE2, the third PE movie should be an original concept (I'm leaning towards the working title "Parasite Abel").

Probotector, for those that dont know is the PAL version of Contra. I never had it growing up and got hold of it maybe a year ago but never got around to play it. Played it through with a friend today using the Konami code, really enjoyed it and holds up well today.
