Part of the additional cost is the huge full color manual. Its not cheap to print over 100 glossy pages in color even at the number they are. That probably adds $20-$50 per unit.

Okay ads starting to come out. WTF! $249.99! $39.99 for a portable game! Can the 3DS at least connect up to the HD like the PSP? The price of the games should be for a home console. Oh I forgot, new release home console games are $60.00 a pop.
"An absolute outrage!"; "Shameful exploitation"; "I love living in rip-off Britain". Just a small selection of reader reaction to the news that the 3DS would sell for around £230 when it debuted in the UK.
Taking advantage of the hype. Come back in a year and see how much cheaper to buy, the games too. Out of curiosity, I'll play with the demo at the Kios, no interest in getting one though. Same as the 3D HDs, a novelty, but not for me.

Agree, the original Gameboy very robust, I think it can even be used as a hammer and survive.

I'll stick with the GBA SP, a true portable that CAN fit in the front pants pocket.

That is one feature I really like about the PSP; the ability to connect and play it on a HDTV which I think should have been included in 3DS... I think Nintendo hates HD or something. Also the pricing on the system/games is pretty high compared to other Nintendo launches:
http://wii.ign.com/articles/115/1157821p3.html
It is tied for the highest retail sticker price of any any previous Nintendo home console/portable system released. It is also $100 more expensive than their last portable launch price. The games are $10 more with the main reason being inclusion of 3D; but so far it appears that the technology is not being utilized very well and tacked on... not worth $10 extra.

I don't think you guys realize that the DS doesn't work on TVs very well. You know, with the two screens? :?

Alluding that the top main screen on the HD, of course no 3D on the newer not too compact portable.

I'm assuming none of you hav played it or demoed it yet?

This thing is worth the money. Hell I played just the face raiders and AR cards for nearly three hours today at work with the demo unit we had and it was still fun even after all that time.

I don't understand why people might get mad about this. It's not a necessity. Rising food and oil prices might get people protesting in the streets, but I hardly think the G20 will have a meeting to discuss the rising price of gadgets

As others have said, Nintendo must find a way to "predict" any circumstances that might damage its bottom line like, oh I don't know, their biggest market's currency constantly falling in value, thus greatly damaging their profit margin.

Mind you they could price it lower, but why do it? The thing will probably sell out for months, so why risk having a repeat of the Wii, where they lost billions cause they didn't have enough product. Their biggest competitor isn't a lower priced handheld, its a freaking 500$ gadget.

Also, you guys think you've got it bad? This is the lowest price among the major retailers in Greece

http://www.public.gr/prod/gaming/consol ... 1222984pp/

I dare you to convert that to $

BTW, anyone had any idea how much an iphone costs to make? Each gen keeps getting more expensive, and its ludacrous cause only the first iphone should really have had huge R&D costs. I guess though if people are buying them....

I read the price in euros and my jaw dropped.

I converted it to dollars and my balls dropped.
