small rant PS2 Rgb cables

Post by benderx »

I have the original ps2 for probably close to a decade now. I used these Monster rgb cables on a regular 34 inch fat standard tv. It looked great on tv for past year or 2. Then got a hd tv plug my ps2 with monster cables (5 cable input plugs) went straight to setting selected RGB. I said F*ck now what. Research online through google about these cables or why. Couldn't find much information. I got only sound and no picture when I selected upon RGB. I had to pull out original red yellow white cables to go back. So I look at the cables it say Y Rc B something. I know the ps2 settings has two video setting
"Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr" or "RGB". Why doesn't the ps2 ouput RGB, that is my question for Monster company. The monster cables do show an almost clean video setting in (Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr), but would strictly prefer RGB setting instead. They are sneaky little bastards. Sure the cables do work on ps3 console, but can always switch over hdmi.

I just bought a Internal hard drive for my ps2, hope it works because I payed $5 for it.
It a seagate 160 gb. :)

By the way I won ebay scum bag case. got payed in full refund, took a while from paypal.

I think you are confusing RGB (which uses the SCART plug) and Component (Which uses 5 RCA plugs), if you are using Component, you need your PS2 set to "Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr" in the video settings.

RGB (Scart) vs Component (5 RCA)

They are pretty much the same thing in terms of image quality , however Component allows the PS2 to do progressive scan (480P) and HD resolutions for games that support it.

No, they have supplied you with exactly what they were meant to, you are trying to use a setting that does not apply to your cables.

Its not scart cable, I recently ordered a scart cable for 8 consoles (saturn too, U.S. Modification for scart use, did some researched)

I have to set Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr for these monster cable plugs not in RGB mode.

So whats your problem? Your post is not clear.

Are you using Component cables?
Are you trying to use RGB while using said Component cables?
Why doesn't the ps2 ouput RGB, that is my question for Monster company.
The PS2 does output RGB via RGB cables (RGB SCART), you are using Component cables.

This.

You've got component cables, mate. Switch it from RGB and you'll be set.

Yes I'm using Component cables and yes I did try to setup in RGB, but can not. I only hear sound but no video. That is why I have to put it in "Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr" instead. Even the cables say those words "Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr".

I think I should get these or this for ps2. Maybe I should find more info or reviews.

Ok, please I have typed this out 2 times before this.

You can not use the RGB setting on the PS2 if your are using component cables.

Y Cb/ Pb Cr/Pr is component.

I'm really Sorry everyone... I thought you could. Well I recently did purchase a universal 3rd party Scart RBG cable, so it may solve most of my problems. May as well get an offical ps2 Scart cable if the 3rd party doesn't do it. I just see slight grainy on my hdtv with those component cables. I just didn't know......

Sorry @ emwearz

You can't even use RGB with PS2 unless you have the right type of TV which uses "sync-on-green" RGB type.

Unfortunately typically the only TV's with this feature are Sony TV's as it's a Sony proprietary format.
My Consoles:
Genesis - Nomad - SegaCD - GameGear - Sega Saturn - Dreamcast - NES - SNES - N64 - Gamecube - Wii - Playstation - PSone & LCD - PS2 - PS3 - Xbox - 3DS
