DoDonPachi freezes!

Post by noiseredux »

so I was lent a copy of DoDonPachi PS1 recently and I've encountered a strange problem playing it. I have quite a few PS1 imports, which I play on my PS2 via disc-swap. However, DDP loads up, but after I choose my ship it goes to a PLEASE WAIT screen and freezes there. From a bit of googling, I've found that this is a strange problem that has to do with DDP's music.

Does anyone know how to bypass this? There must be a way to play DDP on my PS2.

Install a mod chip or buy a Japanese system... you can't really fault a game for freezing if you're hot swapping to play it... You could try hot swapping with a disc that has the same number of music tracks or more?

I'm not faulting it, just want a solution.

You might want try and load ImportPlayer/light first then DoDonPachi.
Might fix the problem

Edit: For swapping with large audio tracks try GTA or Tomb Raider

Using a swap disc shouldn't be having any effect on how the game runs after you swap because it is running just like any other disc. Try taking some canned air and blowing the laser area off. With a lift top more dust gets in there. Also take a good look at the disc under the light to see whats going on see if there is a stain or any scratches. If it is a problem with the disc itself unless your swap disc can play copied PS1 games on your Ps2 you are out of luck.

wrong. Doing some googling reveals this is a very common problem with this game.

Guess you never heard of Table-of-Contents

At the beginning of the disc there is a Table-of-Contents (TOC, also known as "System File" area of the disc), which stores the start positions of the various tracks, as well as information about free blocks.

yes, it seems the audio tracks in the TOC for DoDonPachi is especially unique/troublesome for some reason.
