ohh yea you cant say enough about the shmups on the saturn.

I was blown away by the variety of shmups available.

When i did own a saturn back when in the days we didnt have mod chips to play oversea games. So back then the only games i had was
-virtua fighter
-die hard arcade
-virtua cop 1 and 2
-daytona USA

Which i think most saturn owners at the time had. But yea due to lack of games and the system dying early i sadly traded it in and used the money from that towards a psx.
PSN- jacktsang05
WiiU- jacktsang05

I used to thank Crom everyday for the slowdown on SNES Gradius III.

Oh man, SNES Gradius III is so very beatable... the arcade version on the other hand is an absolute beast! Insanely hard stuff.

Exactly. I have the PS2 Gradius III/IV collection, and I almost never touch III (despite the added difficulty settings). SNES version, please!

Uhh why has no one said X-Men vs Street Fighter. It was the first JP game I played after I got a action replay. Worth getting an action replay just for Xmen vs street Fighter.

I don't know. I guess just nobody got to it.

There are a TON of great puzzle games that haven't been mentioned yet.

Coming from the GameFAQs boards, we've compiled a decent list over at the Saturn System board.

No surprise Guardian Heroes, Radiant Silvergun and Dragon Force top our list. If you parse past the 3D titles...

Saturn Bomberman
X-Men vs. Street Fighter
Street Fighter Zero 3
Magic Knight Rayearth
Street Fighter Zero 2
Albert Odyssey: Legend Of Eldean
Soukyugurentai / Terra Diver (despite the fact is uses 3D computer generated images, they're flattened 2D sprites)
Metal Slug
Street Fighter Collection
Battle Garegga
Castlevania: Dracula X
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Dark Savior
Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo
Duke Nukem 3D
Legend Of Oasis
Vampire Savior
Astal
Sakura Wars
Darius Gaiden
Princess Crown
Langrisser IV
Policenauts
Advanced Dungeons & Dragons Collection
Lunar: Eternal Blue
Sega Ages
Clockwork Knight 1 & 2
King Of Fighters '96
Mr. Bones
Sengoku Blade
Night Warriors
Mega Man X4
Fire Pro Wrestling S: 6 Man Scramble
Baku Baku Animal
Langrisser V
Batsugun
Keio Squadron 2
Bug!
Three Dirty Dwarves
...
zzzzz
My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

AznKhmerBoi got most of the ones I wanted to mention but I'll add:

Linkle Liver story (Wrinkle River Story?)
- a great fast paced zelda-like game with a furry exterior. The language barrier has some hangups but still perfectly playable without knowledge of it's content. It's got great pixel art and challenge that made me give it about 40 hours of playtime.

Keio Flying Squadron 2 (Keio Yugetai)
- A challenging platformer that has interspersed shmup areas. The zany bosses and beautiful artwork are meticulously crafted . Unlockables are really hard to unlock and the gameplay is well made.

Princess Crown
- Ported to PSP with a sadly unexploited Saturn emulator; This game is one of those Atlus/Vanillaware crazy-good graphics games that should be experienced by everyone. The battles look and feel epic because they are. The epitome of 3D hardware being used for 2D awesomeness.

Sexy Parodius
- Another parody shmup that has great graphics combined with zany graphics and awesome gameplay. I don't think the parody level has been exceeded since.

Silhouette Mirage
- the original release without working designs messing it up is well-built fun. Action platforming at it's best. The dual powerup absorbsion system was later used in Ikaruga.

Twinkle Star Sprites
- An underrated cute-em-up shooting game with 2-player puzzle-game-like vs mode that is unparalleled in it's execution. The 2 player mode makes for an exceptionally challenging shmup battle.

Waku Waku 7
- one of those great SNK arcade ports with huge sprites and interestingly unique characters. The gameplay, while not groundbreaking makes for a great fighting game that keeps things interesting through it's unique character selection and interesting movelist.

I was gonna recommend Bangai-O but it's Dreamcast.
