S-video and Composite to HDMI converter

Post by drunkn ghost »

Hello. I am new here and generally pretty bad at navigating forums.

I tried finding an answer to this before posting and couldn't really find anything. I am looking for suggestions on how to get my Sega Saturn and Genesis hooked up with a HDMI connection.

I am happy with all my other systems connections. I use HDMI, Component or VGA for everything else but I only have s-video for the Saturn and composite for the Genesis and I would like to find a converter box so I can plug them in with a HDMI input since those are the only inputs I have left free on either of my TV's.

I found this and was wondering if anyone else has ever tried it.

It seems to be the most reasonably priced option for me. It might be nice to convert VGA as well but honestly I am happy with VGA connections for both my Dreamcast setups. I have a Japanese system on one TV and a American system on the other because I am too lazy to use a boot disc.

I don't really care if it doesn't make the picture any better I just want it to work and not make it look worse. My main reason for doing this is just to make it easier to hook up to modern TV's. I had a old TV that finally died last year and it was the only one I had with s-video connections so I haven't played my Saturn since then. I guess I could just get some composite cables for my Saturn but that would be too easy of a solution. Also I am sick of switching cables behind my TV's and I have a bunch of open HDMI inputs still.

I have the same issue, I have an S-video cable for my SNES, N64, Saturn, PC-FX and no S-video on the back of my LCD TV. Please let us know how it works once you get it set up.

I will definitely let you guys know how it works. I am hoping that I still get one. I decided to order it because it said only 4 left in stock but today it says unavailable and all the other stuff I ordered has shipped except for the converter.

I got it today and I am very happy with it. I only tried it with composite cables on the Genesis for now. My Saturn is getting a switch put in for the region unlock so I will try it with the s-video as soon as I get it back.

My TV says it is displaying in 720 with the HDMI connection now but the picture looks pretty much the same to me. I didn't expect it to make much of a difference I am just happy I can play Saturn on a 55" LED. 8)

If you don't have any other way to hook up a s-video connection I think this is easily worth the money. I wish I would have known about it sooner.
