I've recently discovered Jutei Senki. I bought it, but haven't gotten around to playing it much. Very fun though. Your range of attack is not done on a grid, but by a circular area around your unit. You can see a vid of the translated rom here: Just skip to 2:30 or so to see the actual gameplay.

Good find, I'm an SRPG buff myself.

Then have you played TO?! ;)

And wow Jutei Senki, honestly looks potentially better than the first Front Mission.

Also I just remembered the Uncharted Waters games. I never got too far into them but they seemed very cool, definitely recommended.

Unbelievably, no. I tend to have not played a lot of super popular games within genres for some reason (but instead have played like every random obscure one). I've been considering picking up the PSP remake though, but have been wondering if I should just play it for SNES/SFC or PSX instead.

As far as I know TO's not really that popular, but has a cult following. When articles popped up all over about the remake it barely sounded like anyone out there has played the original.

I'm not an SRPG lover, but to me it's probably one of the best ones I've ever played and I liked it a lot more than FFT. It might start a tad slow but the story was incredible with several branching paths and choices that effected NPC actions and such, way more than what you saw in FFT or whatnot (same devs). Also although I haven't played the PSP remake myself, all of the stuff I've read about it... some of the gameplay changes sound horrible. One of the biggest changes is the leveling system. In the original characters level up themselves and whatever class they are dictates how their stats increase. As long as you have the prerequisites you can change classes to whatever. In the remake, these "classes" themselves level up for all characters, however characters do not level up themselves. So say you have Knight's at level 20 and midway into the game, suddenly you get a new class... when you switch a character to that class, it will be level 1. Now that's broken.

Lots of other crazy changes too, just play the original man. lol. I'd recommend the SNES version for no loading.

Sorry, but what's TO? You've lost me on that one.

Tactics Ogre, I think.

I will add in the Front Mission games to the mix, and Act Raiser.

Ah, duh. Thanks. I knew that FFT meant Final Fantasy Tactics, but I couldn't figure out TO. I even own Tactics Ogre on the SFC. Tee hee hee.

Yeah I know it's not awfully popular overall, but to SRPG fans it's usually held in pretty high regard. Like how most people that are big fans of RPGs have probably played FFVI, most people that are big fans of SRPGs have probably played Tactics Ogre. I'll have to try it out sometime, I'll probably end up playing the SFC/SNES one. I'm pretty sure there's a full fan translation.

Yeah that's why I played it, I think it was as recently as last year or so, someone dumped the PSX translation into the SNES rom. It definitely gets the job done.
