supposedly. But they were also selling GB/GBC through 2008 supposedly, and I never saw ANY in 2007 at any location.
I distinctly remember seeing the GB/GBC games in a couple of Gamestop stores when I was still in college, which was right around 2008. So I'll agree to that particular date. Now the N64's on the other hand.....Those I never saw in ANY Gamestop. Around here all we had were EB Games and as soon as they made the switch to Gamestops anything from the N64 and earlier was removed. And I don't even remember them having a sale to get rid of the stuff :?

Gameboy/Gameboy color was definitely around until a couple of years ago. I picked up the last of the stock in the Utah area at about 80% off plus 10% off Edge card. I really cleaned up too, got about 40-50 games most for around $1-2 each.

Actually they sold all forms of retro from every system and era until 2009. In January 2009 there was a mass sell off to resellers for ebay and other companies like PnT and the remainder they couldn't sell (AKA sports games and complete junk) was destroyed.

But, it was all just the reminder of inventory they had in the back rooms of their stores. It's the same with Xbox and GameBoy/GameBoy Color they don't take it in anymore but there's still lots and lots of it in the company inventory, stores just don't bother to put it out anymore.

Yeah, I call Shenanigans on that one. If it was at a store, it was probably a franchised store or something. I remember Dreamcast being in until like 2004, though.
See my last quote above.

One of my local EB Games still has a bin full of N64 stuff right in the middle of the store. Mostly crappy sports games, but a few good ones, like star wars pod racer. Been meaning to buy up what ever good is left, but they still hold 15 dollar prices, which is insane.

@ModMan
Well I can't say for where you live. But in California I can say for sure that the oldest we've seen in Gamestop stores for quite a few years has been PS2/XBox/Gamecube and GB-GBA on handheld.

Went and spoke to the guy at the former Rhino Games location (now a Gamestop of course). First of all, I always had a good experience in Rhino, and of the three Gamestops, this one has continued to be solid. The clerk was helpful, even calling another store to double-check if they had GBA stuff available (apparently they keep them in a box behind the counter since there's not enough room in the display case). I did notice a few Gamecube and original Xbox games to my surprise, though the collections were quite small.

I also asked the clerk about the phasing out of PS2, which he figured would happen in the coming months, and also about Gamestop closing mall locations, but he said he hadn't heard anything about the corporate office forcing stores shut. It seems none of the three locations near me will be closing soon. And I asked about cases. He said he was having the opposite problem from most places, instead lacking cases, though he did give me three generic black cases (better than the rental cases I have a few games in).

So yeah...positive experience all around. I lament not going to that location more often.

The couple stores I went to the other day were all very helpful and they all surprisingly had a decent assortment of GBA games to be had. It was much improved over the one store that's closest to me. They also had a couple complete Gamecube games I'd been looking for that I hadn't been able to find for a while. So it was really a worthwhile trip.

They also said pretty much the same thing about the PS2 games, in that they were probably being phased out by the end of the year, though they did give me different time frames. One said fall, the other summer, and the last guy said by Christmas. So, obviously they aren't sure, but they're sure enough that it's going to happen by the end of the year.

The manager at one of my local Gamestops told me that they would most definetly have a sale on GBA games, but that it would probably start 2 to 3 months after April 3rd. She said that's how it was for XBox games when they started getting rid of them.
