is jap only? if i get it can i play it on my us system or do i have to have a jap system to play?

I believe it is jap only, but you can get adapters to play imports

You can also mod your US SNES to play the game by removing the plastic tabs inside the cartridge slot.

Cheapest I've seen it for was $40 unfortunately. This game is on the top of my list for my trip to Akihabara. If I happen to see multiple copies for cheap, I might bring some back to sell to the members here. Don't worry though, I won't jack up prices or anything. I'd just figure I'd help some others find this gem for a good price.

I wish I knew the rarity of the game in Japan. I think it was released late in the Super Famicom's life, so I have a feeling it might be a tad rare.
