Do you think hacking will end for the next generation?

Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 are just partially hacked. The actual copy protection of the PS3 hasn't been cracked. The latest Wii consoles (DVD drives) also have copy protection as well (but can still be softmodded).

It feels like modchips and hardmods are dying out. It's mostly softmodding these days. Do you think the companies for the next generation will actually be able to tap security holes for real and also hold the copy protection uncracked? You can call me naive if you'd like, but I think it actually is very possible. Look what Sony has achieved with firmware 3.56 and 3.60 for instance.

Just because softmodding is becoming more prelevant does not mean that hacking is dying; it means that modchips are dying, and I am awfully thankful for that. Softmodding is much more easy and accessible, and has come about because consoles can use things like USB devices for easy, rewritable transfer of data. Modchips are difficult and dangerous to install, whilst a monkey can softmod a Wii. Hacking is more alive than ever, and through backups, digital content can be preserved for future generations. I may sound like a broken record whenever I say this, but the in the end, the hackers always win.

If I understand anything about hackers is the harder it is to hack... the more rewarding it is to hack it. Even if they get better at stopping it... there will be someone willing to hack it.

As long as anybody has technical knowledge and wants to tweak a system to their own personal preferences, there will be hacking. And as lisalover said, the hackers will always win.

Making an unhackable system is like trying to make a perpetual motion device. It can't be done.

Who cares if there is no circumvention when we can sign our own code AND spoof the 3.56/3.60 PSN checks and still get online. The PS3 is a wide open system now, even more than the Wii. It's the most broken security system since the Dreamcast. If you have the keys the system will let you do anything.
