19 hours difference one way is just four hours and a tick of the calendar the other way...

Has anyone purchased items from these sites, and are they reliable?

I remember strolling in that import store in Hawaii years ago too. A mini Japan. As others have pointed out, you can install a region mod switch or use Action Replay Freeloader. However if you really want to get a Japanese Gamecube, maybe get a color not available in the states, say the Spice Orange edition.

One concern is keep different region saves on a separate memory card. I have successfully managed to have a Japanese save of Hudson Loderunner combined with my U.S. saves, but most import games will reformat the memory card if its a different region.

...I know there are much cheaper ways to play Japanese GC games.

Gamecube region free with softmod on a Wii is not hasslefree certain games like Sonic Gems collection check the security twice and not just when booting games.
I have a modded Gamecube and everything works perfectly there it could do with a 50/60hz switch tho :P

Trust me, around working hours it's not as easy as you think.

I know it isn't easy. Neither is the 6 hour difference from the East coast.

Being in PA calling HI was pretty easy as I could call at 10 at night and still get businesses at 4 or 5PM (if you work swing however that would be an issue).

So outside of that game, if your Wii was softmodded you could play most of them on Genesis Plus and they would run better. There are very few that don't work on a softmodded Wii (at least of the 34 I have).

From Japan you could call Hawaii at 7:00am and get business at 11:00am, local. That's also during business hours.
