ANNOUNCING SWISS - THE "SWISS ARMY KNIFE" OF GC SOFTWARE

Post by gtmtnbiker »

emu_kidid has made the following announcement at his website:

I'm proud to finally announce the software that I've been developing on and off the past few months or so. I've labelled it "Swiss" because it'll hopefully (not initially) boast more features than any other homebrew Gamecube utility out there. It is very losely based on the SD-Boot source but about 90% was re-written

It will be 100% open sourced and available online (probably googlecode) so you can see changes as I make them and I'll be releasing binary versions with every new feature/improvement.

Current Features:
- Load DOL from SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Load GCM/ISO from Original Disc/SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Multi-Game DVD-R support (Cobra/GCOS)
- Multi-Disc support Original Disc/SD/SDHC/DVD-R/HDD
- Disc Ripping to SD/SDHC/HDD
- Region free / Video forcing (480p)
- Full cheat engine for all games (update it via SD/SDHC/HDD)
*HDD features require a IDE-EXI or homemade adapter
**SD features require a SDGecko or homemade adapter

Definite future features (in order of priority):
- Memory Card Management
- USBGecko/SE support
- IPL/SRAM/DVD-ROM/RAM dumping
- IPL Configuration

A beta version will be available in the next two weeks

Load GC games from a hard drive? I didn't even know that was possible. Nice to know! Will keep an eye on this.

Yup, he'll be selling boards for those not interested in making your own. Some guy in Mexico is the one who came up with the design by recycling some old PS2 mod chip. Very clever.

emu_kidid & Ashen have been working on a project where you replace the DVD drive with a SunDriver (hard drive). Hopefully they can get it working. The SunDriver is a DVD drive replacement for the Wii and hopefully it also works on the GC.

That is incredible. I don't know if I'd go to that length to mod my GameCube but I love to know that it's possible. Love the homebrew community!

I am really fuzzy on the modding scene so forgive me if this is a stupid question but will this allow the play of any emulators on the 'Cube?
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Nope, it allows you to play backup images of GC games. In other words, arrr, it be a pirate's tool... arrrrr!

Ah, okay. Interest dropping. Gamecube piracy confuses me - I have no moral stance against it as gamecube games raise zero dollars for developers or publishers at this point...it's just that most 'cube games are so cheap right now that spending money on pirating them seems counter-intuitive.

Yeah, the compatibility rate is currently very low anyway so it's very much a curiosity at the moment.

The whole idea is to avoid swapping discs. I have a library of about 70 GC games. It would be nice if I could just put them on a hard drive or a couple of SDHC cards. Sort of like what I can do with xbox and PS2.

You can run some emulators on the cube such as the NES & SNES.
