US ODCM Scan project on a bootable CDI for viewing on DC!

Post by Anthony817 »

Hey guys, a few other guys and I are working on getting all 13 US ODCM mags scanned to share with the community. The first issue "0" has already been scanned fully and has been put on a Jpeg viewer program on Dreamcast that has some really great features where you can pan and zoom the pages with the analog stick.

After all have been fully scanned, we hope to have the full collection on 1 or 2 discs for anybody that would be interested in this.

So, without further ado, I present to you issue "0" for retro reading on your TV! 8)

This disk uses a jpeg viewer for the DC to load images that have been converted from the US Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine #0.

The image files are in the PIC directory.

When the viewer starts just ignore the prompt to insert a new disk, press A and browse to the PIC directory.

Press A to select/advance and use the L/R triggers to zoom/unzoom.
Pressing U/D/L/R moves the image around on the screen.

If you would like to follow the progress of the scanning process or get PDF scans instead go here.

This is sweet! I have all the issues and discs. I bought two of the Spidey #12 issues, it has a great listing of all the U.S Dreamcast games. Looking forward to the compilation disc. Will all the mags all fit on one disc viewable with a Dreamcast? Didn't see the PDFs at the link you provided.

Opps, looks like he removed the link to the PDF. I'll reupload the first issue for you no problem mate.

About the size issue, well, if it can't all fit into one image on a single CDR, we can do a split release with 2 discs, but when I get my SD Card adapter in I will be ripping a single "CDI" with all in 1 ISO regardless of size as my 32GB SDHC will be able to have them all in there ready to read from my DC whenever I want. :P

Also, it could fit on a 850mb disc I would hope, but we will have to see how large all magazines are when it's all done.

Is this the US version of the ODM? I've never read it before, was it any good? The UK ODM was awesome. One of the best official console mags ever imo. Anways, Thanks for this, what an awesome idea and upload. Look forward to the others.

Yup, this is the US edition. The UK actualy had like 6 or so different Dreamcast specific publications, not all offical. North America only had the one...

I have collected the last 5 and first 2 UK Saturn and Dreamcast magazines and have also compiled them into a single download, with some Shenmue and Half-Life extras included, but this is NOT a CDI, and that package all is in the CBZ reader file format, but the program is included with it as well. Anyway, I was going to say that the UK mags are awesome, and have that unique Britt humor we all love.

The US mags are just as awesome I can assure you.

Yeah we had quite a few Dreamcast magazines here in the UK, but the official one was basically the only one worth reading in my opinion. Well, and the unofficial Dreamcast magazine was all right I suppose. And yeah, the official Saturn mag here was equally awesome. I used to have a lot of them on my external hard drive, but unfortunately that died and I didn't have them backed up. I still have a few of my 'physical' copies of the official Dreamcast magazines though.

Anyways, thanks, I'll have to check out the US one. I'll download the CDI in a bit and check it out cheers. And thanks too for the CBZ link as well BTW.
