No video with SNES.

Post by dfb1999 »

Hi, new here, been lurking for a while, and I figure if anyone can help me with this, it'll be you guys.

I have a pretty busted up PAL SNES, it has a huge crack on the front, and I'm pretty sure you could just pull the case apart if you needed to. But anyway, I haven't used it ina while, but I go to play on it, hook all the wires in, it turns on fine, go to the right channel (RF lead FTW!), and I'm I'm getting is static. The SNES is clearly doing something because it sort of changes when I turn it on and off, but no real picture and no sound comes through.

The RF lead is a SEGA one. It worked before. Everything worked fine before. I've cleaned everything and I can see what could be wrong.

Any advice is appreciated.

What continent are you on? Are you using a pal snes on a ntsc tv? that may not work properly. Also what region games are you playing?

Voltage rating may come in question too, Pal (europe) snes use a different type of electric plugs and there may not be enough voltage to run it. The light may turn on, but theres not enough juice.

Go and get a nintendo plug, why use the genesis's? Do you have a N64 or a gamecube? you can use that A/V cord as well. The old RF cords work ok, but your snes should use the Yellow/red/white cable.

I'm in England, the power cable is the original, it's all tuned in.
I don't have any Nintendo machines except this one and a Wii. I was hoping there was a fix where I didn't have to buy more cables, but I'm guessing that's my best bet.

The Nintendo and Sega auto switch RF boxes work the same so that doesn't matter unless the RF box has died.

Maybe flip the channel switch a few times even if you put it back where it was in case it got a little corroded sitting.

Maybe bypass RF and try the direct composite or SVideo hookup?

Clean the SNES and games with some wieman. And static sound means nothing is happening. If there is no music and video but good power source/supply, the 65816 (Micro) might be dead. Try to get some sound so you know it's probably not a power supply problem or anything else.

I'll give these a try. I'll look around for some cheap scart cables (the TV I use is the oldest piece of crap around.) and hopefully I'll get back to playing Street Fighter pretty soon.

Yeah, just get a game to make some sound. If you can then thats good. Anything that sounds like game games music, actually. Wiggle the jacks around too. A lot of the time it's a bad solder joint, but sometimes it's not.
