It's not only Majesco or Capcom releases - a few different game companies contracted out to third party companies to re-release a new run of well-selling games. Konami is one such company.. My complete copy of Super Castlevania IV has a black and white manual, and was made in Mexico about a year after the game saw its initial run..
This isn't uncommon in NES, or Genesis titles either, so if you're a collector, it's a good idea to poke around online and familiarize yourself with the print runs and their differing characteristics..

Yep. The Majesco rerelease of MMX also has a cheaper non-glossy label which gets worn much more easily than a regular SNES cart. My copy's over 13 years old and it's starting to look quite ragged now, even though I treated it well as a kid.AppleQueso wrote:Never knew about this stuff regarding Majesco actually.
Is that why Mega Man X is so much more common than its sequels?

I also have a few B&W manuals that I got when the games were new. Some I can remember are Super Empire Strikes Back and Castlevania IV.

Re: Black & white manual for Megaman X for SNES
Can you tell just by the cart if it is a rerelease?
Re: Black & white manual for Megaman X for SNES
As already stated, the label is different. Nintendo labels for NES and SNES are pretty resilient, but the re-release Majesco carts have labels that wear easily over time. The product code is different. Most easily noticed, it says "Made in Mexico" rather than Japan (under the product code). And if you're buying a cart over the internet, the easiest way to tell is to ask the seller if the back of the cart has a sticker label or if the text is pressed into the plastic. The Majesco carts don't have a back label. The words are actually pressed into the cart plastic. I have other MIM carts that have actual back labels though, so I don't know if this was exclusive to Majesco carts or not. Best to check where it was made (usually under but some times above the product code in the lower left hand corner of the label).
edit: I just remembered, some say "Assembled in Mexico" while others say "Made in Mexico."

Re: Black & white manual for Megaman X for SNES
Ok well thanks for clarifying. I found conflicting reports when I googled it. Some say that the labels are normal, some not.
Re: Black & white manual for Megaman X for SNES
The front labels? The thing about it is, the glossy clear top wears off really easy. Then after that, it's just all down hill for the label. That's why you'll see some that look alright, but they're just not as glossy. I guess these were kept in optimal temperatures or something.

I'm going to have to look if I have a box for mine. I know my manual was used to death (I think its almost in pieces from writing codes in it.Stark wrote:Right, sorry to misuse the term. Just mean that it is not the original print run, which I think I would lean toward having personally. So...anyone want a manual and box for Mega Man X?AppleQueso wrote:I doubt "repro" is accuate, as I'm pretty sure Majesco released those under license
Could be interested..
