Finicky NES Toploader

Post by Rayban »

So I just got a top loader and it's having a problem with some carts. I've cleaned the carts very thoroughly (eraser/rubbing alcohol) and the carts that don't work in my top loader work without a problem in my Retro Duo. If I insert and reinsert the cart, turning it on/off, it will finally load the game. I've cleaned the cart slot with a credit card and cloth with rubbing alcohol but didn't seam to work.
Other games load just fine on my toploader...
How do I fix this? Tighten the slot pins?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have one too and it does this some times.

you just have to push it in slowly and see where it gets it right.

also, once the game is in your console, tilt it toward you or slightly away, this may help sometimes.

hows the condition of yours? mine is kinda scruffy and I expect that cause of its looks. So the way that it acts is possibly cause of over use/ old age?

hope this helps

You you push a cart in the NES, do it feel like less resistance pushing it in then your Retro Duo? Also, when you clean the pins of your top loader, make sure you use something that's at least as thick as a NES cart. You want to be able to scrub the pins clean with whatever you stick in there.

The retro duo has more of a "grip" for sure. Maybe I'll try and clean the slot a bit better...

There's a lot of corrosion spots on the metal shield around the cart slot. I bet it needs more cleaning if enough gunk got in there to make that spotty. Or maybe the previous owner was still blowing on carts and transferred a bunch of spit in there. :|

Yep, I gave it another rubbing alcohol cleaning today and it seems to be doing a little better. I'll do it again when I get another opportunity. (when I get sick of re-inserting carts  )
