It's sad that FPSs didn't catch on more on the DS. I thought the control scheme for Hunters was incredibly intuitive and perfect for FPSs.

Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days looks positively stunning; its graphics are comparable to an early PSP game. Some other fantastic-looking DS games are Golden Sun: Dark Dawn, Phantasy Star Zero, Super Mario 64 DS, Tales of Innocence, both of the DS Legend of Zelda games, and Bangai-O Spirits [for some jaw-dropping 2D!].

Also, for all the people who think that the DS version of Super Mario 64 looks worse than the N64 version:

Ketsui DS packed all the bullet hell goodness into a small DS cart.

I very much agree. The control were as good as a PC setup.

The problem with Hunters was the completely underwhelming online experience. Lag made the game unplayable, Samus was one of the best characters because she didn't need to aim with her rockets. The maps had dozens of clipping issues and you could get out of bounds in many of them.

I don't remember much about the single player other than the Final Boss could be attacked from far away without getting hit =/

Unfortunatedly for me, I can't run Quake II to play with my friends since most of us only have a fat DS and it runs out of RAM.

Just to add, on the subject of DS FPSes...

The recent Call of Duty: Black Ops is a wonderful DS FPS! Except for the "vehicle" stages, the single player campaign - while short - was a real pleasure. While the experience is nothing like Picross 3D or Dragon Quest V or any of the other truly great DS games, as a "DS FPS", BLOPS is a winner! I much preferred its campaign to the goofy, gimmicky, Hunters.

I know DS fps's did not catch on in my crowd because they did not have download play. And the one that I know of that did (Call of Duty 4) was terrible.

Having played both games all the way through the DS version is like deluxe version of the N64 version.
It seems to use more polygons than the N64 original for various things.
For example the N64 coins were sprites that disappeared when you went away from them but on the DS they were rock solid and you could see them from the other side of the level.

Of course the DS version lacked the filtering of the N64 version but overall I agree the DS version just looked much much better.
