DKCR rules, but...

Post by Lazer »

I just wanted to say how amazing it would be if Retro made a 2D Metroid. Because this 2D DK is some sick shit! Has anyone played the volcano levels? The music sounds like the Metroid music from the fire levels (Norfair?) of Super Metroid. Every time I play one of those levels I die, because all I can think about is how awesome they could make a new 2D Metroid. I mean it seems like a no-brainer: They made the Primes so they obviously can make badass Metroid games, they clearly are masters of making crazy 2D games, they could recall all copies of other m and melt them down or something, and use that to make new discs. Who's with me?!

Yes, I would very much like to see this. There are many classic games dying to be remade with current technology. And remade in a way that preserves the original gameplay.

Have you played Shadow Complex? It's a good alternative until they make what you're asking for.

I'd argue that Shadow Complex is not a good alternative because of how they implemented the shooting mechanics. I feed that Metroid need with the Castlevania games on the DS, which are a decent substitute.

I am only looking from the perspective of, kinda like an updated side-scrolling Metroid, and a lot of fun to play.

Hey, I'm totally with you!! If anyone could pull this off, it would have to be the Retro Studios! Man, they just did a FANTASTIC JOB with their games, and again with DKCR. They totally nailed it! It's a fuck... peace of genius! While playing the game, many times I caught myself thinking "Wow, what an incredible LEVEL DESIGN" as well as "Wow, that's cool" or "That's looks niiice"... Haven't had the "Wow" factor while playing a game for a long time.

I'm so happy that the games sells so well. 2D Games have really been making a comeback recently. What a superb trend, eh?

But back to topic. I've had a similar moment concerning a "2D inspiration" while watching gameplay footage from "Muramasa the demon blade" - this super gorgeous 2D side-scrolling hack'n slash if you will. When I saw those vivid, coloufull handrawn Sprites, I imedially had to think of another 2D Castlevania - like a sequel to "Symphony of the Night". Oh god, how awesome... that would be.

It's just a shame Castlevania Harmony of Despair turned out to be pretty terrible and super multiplayer focused, ugh. Thought we were finally getting another quality 2D CV game on the consoles!

Indeed though, I'd love to see Retro work their magic for a 2D Metroid game. They already blew me away with the Prime trilogy (destroys Other M), and DKCR coming from them just looks incredible. If anyone could do it it'd be them.

I didn't really like their take on Donkey Kong Country and I think Shadow Complex was extremely overrated.

Maybe if Igarashi and company made a 2D Metroid game.......

I couldn't disagree more. The new Donkey Kong Country is fantastic and Shadow Complex deserves every bit of praise that it receives.

If Retro announced that they were making a 2D Metroid, I'd crap myself.

Again....
