Re: The Most difficult, yet enjoyable, NES games of all time
I wonder how many of these games I would STILL find enjoyable today LOL. I have so much less patience these days. Anyway, here's a few that came to mind
The Ninja Gaiden series - NG II was my favorite and I beat it multiple times
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I think this game would make me throw a controller through a tv today, but I was such a huge turtle fan back when I was a kid and kept at this game until I finished it.
Mega Man series - I always kept coming back to this series, though it would be nothing compared to how much I ended up loving the Mega Man X series. I was proud when I beat the first Mega Man cause I heard people say it was so hard
Gremlins 2:The New Batch - Come to think of it, I don't remember if I beat it, but I liked the game and it was pretty hard as I recall. I used to love the movie too
Sunsoft's Batman - Because I have always been a big Bats fan
Zelda 2 - I remember it being hard as fuck, but I was captivated by the game and kept at it until I beat it. I actually ended up loving it more than the first game, though I might admit that the first game is a bit more balanced and better designed. Still, Zelda 2 seemed a little darker, the combat was more interesting and the whole game had more of a mysterious quality to its world
Rygar - NO SAVES!!!
A cousin and I played through the whole game throughout the night. No sleep, we were snacking on green olives the whole time. I was a bit of a better gamer than him and it came to me to take on the last boss...and he killed me. SON OF A BITCH!!!! We still had a lot of fun though
Captain Skyhawk - Since someone mention it, I used to love this game. Don't remember it being super hard though
Yo Noid! - I had a ball with this one, that pizza mini game I thought was so cool back then
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game - Not a hard game for me personally, but I have heard other gamers having trouble with it. I was obsessed with this game. Must have beaten it dozens of times and could one life the whole game solo easy
Battletoads - We ALL loved to this game, even though it kicked ALL of our asses
The Double Dragon Trilogy - Beat all three of them. The third one was my favorite with the different playable characters.
The Ninja Gaiden series - NG II was my favorite and I beat it multiple times

I strongly agree man! Great taste is just a common I guess!noiseredux wrote:evildeadman, it amazes me just how alike we are man.
My first thought was Ghosts N Goblins, which like you I have never beaten. But I still love it. I love trying. It drives me nuts, but never in a bad way. On the flip side, I think Super Ghouls N Ghosts was just fucking mean.
Castlevania is another good example. I've yet to beat it, but about once I year I try and I seem to make it just a little further each year. Haha.
I got Friday The 13th when it was released. Still can't beat it. Still fun. YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE ALL DEAD.
Friday the 13th is definitely a BITCH to beat. I recommend the Game Genie to assist you. If not then IF and I strongly repeat, IF you can locate & destroy Pamela Vorhees' Castlevania Meduas flying head for her sweater then that can come in handy in defeating Jason. He does come back like 3 times and he gets more difficult each time (he gets faster, takes more damage to kill him, etc). I love that game over screen! Check out the Angry Video Game Nerd's review on this game for a piss your pants laugh about that screen and the game in general, if you haven't already that is!
Whoever mentioned Gremlins 2 is right on that one too. I forgot about that. I think I made it to level 3 before I got pissed and once again turned to the game genie for assistance!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

Yes it is and that's how I go into and found out about the AVGN.
That was a great DVD actually, I managed to get the last copy at Best Buy the day it came out.

haha, I bought mine the day it came out too. It is a really great documentary. I'm actually glad that more horror documentaries are coming out in the past few years that are actually well-done and have something to say. Going To Pieces, Halloween: 25 Years and Never Sleep Again all come to immediate mind.Evildeadmanwalking77 wrote:Yes it is and that's how I go into and found out about the AVGN.That was a great DVD actually, I managed to get the last copy at Best Buy the day it came out.

Yes, those are all in my collection and I strongly agree that they're VERY well done. I need to get my hands on that Troll 2 Documentary, I keep hearing positive reactions to it. I forget what it's called though, The worst movie ever made or something?

Re: The Most difficult, yet enjoyable, NES games of all time
The NES game I've gotten more 'Game Overs' in while still returning to try again is by far Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels. The only concession to your sanity is that you continue at the start of the world (x-1) you're on rather than returning to 1-1. As always, the reason for the draw is most of the deaths are 'teachable moments' and the determined player can slowly learn and master each level. Most satisfying!
