Turbo Grafx 16/Turbo Duo games worth owning outside of VC

Post by Purkeynator »

I have this argument with myself every so often. To buy a Turbo Grafx -16 or Turbo Duo or to be content with my TG Virtual Console collection. There is quite a sizable amount of good Turbo Grafx games on the virtual console with imports and CD titles included in the mix. Outside of the games on the Wii's virtual console, what other Turbo Grafx (including CD titles) are worth owning? I am trying to decide if the titles not on the VC would make owning an actual console worth the money. For reference here is what's available on Wii Virtual Console service:

Jackie Chan's Action Kung-Fu. It's awesome on the NES and much better on the TG16
I've got no signature.

Thanks for the link, Hobie. Neat site! Now I really want ULTIMATE TIGER [to be released on the Wii VC ]

Well I finally gave in after all these years and am buying a real Turbo console. I figured I better do it right and bought Electrochip's Turbo Duo RX with component video mod and US game region mod. Anyone else have any game recommendations? I am thinking of burning a disc of Ys IV with English translation patch and one of the Saphire reprints. Any other suggestions? I already have most of the good stuff that came out on Virtual Console to the tune of about 20 or so games. Yes, I did support Hudson lately but now it appears to have been in vane :(

You mean PC Engine Duo RX?

I'm not going to look through the VC list. Isn't not even in ABC order. Get the four Soldier games (including Gunhad/BL), PC Denjin, the three PC Genjin games, Gate of Thunder, Lords of Thunder, Ys I&II and III, Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, Ninja Spirit, Alien Crush, Devil Crash, Bomberman '93 or '94, Valis, Download, Macross 2036, Bloody Wolf, R-Type parts I&II, Galaga '88, Nexzr, Darius Alpha and you'll be off to a great start.

Just remember that a Duo RX can only play Japanese HuCards, so don't go buying the TG-16 version of Darius Alpha! Make sure you get the Japanese version. CD games are region free and that you'll need an Arcade Card to play games like Sapphire.

The PCE version is a lot better than the Genesis version (Twin Cobra) IMHO.

The RX he got is modded to play US and J cards.

Keep in mind on R-Type as noted above in Japan came as part 1 and part 2 on separate cards. Each was half the game. There was a J CD release with the whole game, but I think the US release on card was the whole thing.

Clearly, what you need is Legendary Axe II and a Turbografx-16 with CD attachment. Clearly. :)

I think you completely failed to read the OPs second post here.

That is awesome that his RX is region modded!!! Cool! I also missed a big point on the second post.
