Help me fix my DS lite

I just got a blue and black DS lite, and its complete and in perfect condition, except for one flaw. Some jackass carved their initials into the back. The mark was done with a blade, but it is very small and thin. I just want to know if there is any way to get it out or reduce its appearenc.

The only way I can think of to get it out would be to fill it, sand it, and paint it. But replacement DS cases are cheap and abundant on ebay as well as other sites. You can usually get them for around $5-10.
