I mean back catalog not just restricting to the Megadrive which is most of what they have released with the exception of recently the Dreamcast games collection.Opa Opa wrote:What do you mean by "back catalog"? However, I think I might have answered this if you read a little further down.
They've released older titles in compilations for consoles/handhelds for people who don't have original hardware (or other reasons) and put some games that are very expensive like Greylancer on virtual download services. I don't have a problem with that. It's just a way for them to capitalize on prior investments. Nintendo is doing the same thing (see Mario All-Stars Wii). Also, the game lineup in some of those compilations are not too shabby either.
And FV2 is better on the Saturn anyways...![]()
I did give examples but I'll make it even more broad their Arcade games or any of the numerous Console games
I mean they could pull games from anything from their Arcade games such as Sega Rally to anything they had on the 32x.
All in digital format which they are prime for you could argue licencing costs but what about their own services they have such as Segapass or the games they release for PC ?
Home ports is better idea since as you well know the Arcade scene has gone from the Western markets a chance of playing House of the dead 4 would be nice but very unlikely to happen unless they release it as a home port.Opa Opa wrote: I liked Overkill but that's a personal opinion. If you want to play 4; go play it (that is, of course, if you can find it). We are waaay overdue for a home port.
And while I haven't played Beast Rider, every review I've read hasn't been pretty.
I don't disagree but I don't see how delving into their back catalog of games for release on download services would be a bad thing for them in any way shape or form.Opa Opa wrote: They did make some terrible mistakes. I think that by laying low and taking small moves, they are doing the right thing for now.
I have to say that I do agree with you here even the Xbox offered live as it's incentive when it first came out.Opa Opa wrote: I agree with you there but what would their system have to offer that the competition wouldn't? A new system not only has to have updated graphical/power capabilities but it also has to have something to bring consumers in. The PS2 had DVD, the Wii had motion controls, et cetera. There's so much going on right now that I don't think that they could compete until Sony or Microsoft (or both) got out of the game market. And that most likely won't happen for at least two gaming generations or unless Microsoft/Sony really screw themselves over somehow... Notice I didn't say Nintendo. I think it's safe to assume that they are a fairly strong company and mostly make good business choices (there are exceptions of course).
However that doesn't stop me wanting it to happen if it happens I'd be very happy.
Nintendo is just the king in terms of business decisions at the moment they seem to be defining what should and shouldn't be happening.
Many people wrote the Wii off as a gimmick and to some extent it is but at the same time it gave birth to a whole new outlook on gaming and what gamers are some positive such as everyone can play games but some negative such as "hardcore vs casual" gamers.
Not to mention the fact that Nintendo business decisions have lead the other two competitors to make their own motion sensing devices and of course the 4th competitor Apple to ride on the motion sensing, touch screen wave too.
Fair play I have to admit your points against Mario Kart are valid I was playing Mario kart yesterday and I also found it to be annoying when the blue shell comes.Opa Opa wrote: I can't say anything about a Galaxy 2 comparison but I can say that I prefer the Sonic All-Star Racing to Mario Kart. Not just because I like Sega and its' characters but because I believe that the game is more orderly that MK. Sonic Racing is more about racing skill than using items to determine who wins a race. Mario Kart is just so random about who is going to win it doesn't seem fair half the time. Why should I get knocked out of first place when the guy in last shot a blue shell at me? If you can't race as well as the people ahead doesn't mean you deserve the right to determine rankings.
However I still find the core karting to be better than in Sonic racing.
The way I see Nintendo is that they are still doing what they have always done bringing out the Marios, Zeldas and Kirbies and successfully updating them for a new audience.
However Sega isn't always successfully updating it's games.
I mean Sega knows what a classic game is because they rerelease them all the time however they don't quite take it far enough at the moment.
I for one would love to see an update for Streets of Rage.
You know the other reason why I can see Sega not being the Sega we all know and love ?
Well the fans are taking it upon themselves to show Sega what they want in the forms of fan releases such as Sonic 2 HD.
I guess if Sega released a new console the main thing they could offer customers is their wealth of franchises that everyone would have experiences of at one point or another.
I know people not remotely into gaming that have still heard of Sega through some form or other.
We used to have Arcades here called Sega world a lot of casual gamers have experienced their their games there.
I remember the main complaint in those days used to be that the games that came out on the Sega Saturn were not as good as the Arcade graphically and inferior looking to the Playstation.
Dreamcast almost had it perfect but the fact that the PS2 had the DVD really killed it off.
As a games machine gamers were buying it but the casual audience was buying the PS2 as a cheap DVD player.
I still maintain my stance Sega at the time was due to failure to read the market.
I don't know if Sega will or would ever release another console again but I sure is hell would love them to and I would buy it.
A side story about me is that I purchased all of last generations consoles just to experience the Sega games.
I would have liked them to be more like EA in their games releases being truly multi platform but Sega did a weird thing last gen they gave certain exclusives.
To play Virtua Fighter 4 you had to have a PS2 to play Panzer Dragoon you had to have an Xbox and to play Sonic Adventure 2 you had to have a Gamecube.
