Phantasy Star 2
Re: Phantasy Star 2
Phantasy Star II is a great example of a game that I wish I had played when I was younger. Today I just have no patience for slow paced and linear RPG's. It is a shame because I hear so many good things about the storyline.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

If you just want to watch someone play through it just to see the storyline, there is a Let's Play of Phantasy Star 2 on Youtube you could watch. I did not watch it because I want to play it, but I think he goes all the way through the game.Flake wrote:Phantasy Star II is a great example of a game that I wish I had played when I was younger. There's no doubt about it. It's a tough, heavy-grinding game - much like the original Phantasy Star. But yeah, the twists in the story really make it worth the effort.Flake wrote:Phantasy Star II is a great example of a game that I wish I had played when I was younger. It's about 1000% more enjoyable with the original hint book - which is designed very well, especially for its time.

Blast Processor, I think you definitely need to try this game out. It took me playing it for a day or two before I really get into it. I am really into it now.BLAST PROCESSOR wrote:There's no doubt about it. It's a tough, heavy-grinding game - much like the original Phantasy Star. I just defeated Nei First. I am assuming that I need to start using Kain since the enemies are all robots now.
I found a better scan of the original hint book. They are helpful for those long dungeons!

Amy is one of the best, I would take her.

Free advice, level up Hugh the Biologist once you get past the Dams. He is going to be the most valuable member of your party once the robots go away. His spells Vol and SaVol are the most powerful in the game (even more powerful than Megid since they don't harm your party). Pretty much Vol kills an enemy in 1 hit (and Savol takes out an entire group) and works about 2/3 of the time, even on the enemies in the final dungeon (although not on the final two bosses). The higher his level the more TP he has, and in some cases you can run through entire mazes just having Hugh destroy everything that comes across his path.

Re: Phantasy Star 2
Finally beat the game! It was great and I am really looking forward to the next in the series. Although I already played PS 3 today and I am not thrilled at the way it looks.
Thanks everyone!
Thanks everyone!
Re: Phantasy Star 2
Congratulations. It's a long haul, but worth it. I made the mistake of starting PS3 right after finishing PS2 and got tired of it half way through. Still haven't gone back to the series after a couple years.

Re: Phantasy Star 2
Your mistake was not going to PS4 after PS2. PS3 is pretty awful, and PS4 is one of the best 16-bit RPGs ever (perhaps a biased opinion, but it's really, really good). Let PS3 go and give PS4 a run sometime, it has aged incredibly well.Hatta wrote:Congratulations. It's a long haul, but worth it. I hear you, I played PS2 when I was really young, so I can usually go back to it and rely on the nostalgia factor to keep me going. Like I said above, you should really try out PS4. It's no where near the grindfest that PS2 is, and even has some non-linear gameplay things going on. It's remarkable how well that game has aged. Combat is fun, the music is great, and it's just overall a really enjoyable game.Flake wrote:Phantasy Star II is a great example of a game that I wish I had played when I was younger.
