Deyellowing SNES Question

Post by Betamax001 »

Can it be done without taking the whole system apart? I'm quite broke, and don't really want to buy a screw driver, but I really want to get my SNES to not look like piss. Is it possible to soak a rag in the retrobright solution and scrub it clean with it? Or should I just try and sell this one and buy a new later model that is nice and clean?

why sell and buy a new one when you could just easily buy that screwdriver bit?

It'll come in handy for lots of things, including say, deep cleaning the contacts on that dirty ass copy of Earthbound you'll find for $3.

I suppose so. Can you buy them at a hardware store, or only online?

Have you considered the bic pen trick? Worked wonders when opening my Wii and Xbox back in the day.

Take a bic pen (hard clear one is perfered, but white one will work as well)
Take out the ink core
Take a lighter
Melt the bic plastic down
While plastic is still hot (not on fire mind you) ram it into the screw you wish to open
Wait 30 seconds to a minute for the plastic to cool
BAM, you have a form fitted screwdriver

I did that when I didn't have a credit card to order stuffs online :P
If you aren't having a good time, why are you playing?

The yellowing is caused by the plastic actually reacting with oxygen in the air, not sunlight. If you're OCD about it I think the best thing to do is find an SNES from a production run where they mixed the plastic just right so it kept its original color.

I suppose I might just do that, but I would need to sell my other one first to get some money. Anyone want a yellow dirty SNES deck?
