While I enjoyed New Super Mario Bros, it was too short and probably a little too easy. By the third day, I had beaten the game - not with all the Star Coins.

I would have preferred if the difficulty had been kicked up a notch.
And yes, I know that collecting all the coins is part of the challenge and would increase the difficulty level; but I'm just not into collect-a-thons.

Also, I hated FF3. I would only recommend it if level grinding is something you enjoy.

As for other DS games, I don't think anyone's mentioned Contact. I've enjoyed what I've played of it thus far.

So I just picked up Mazes of Fate. It's a first person dungeon crawler, in the old school style. Cross is your forward/back/strafe, move the stylus to look around/turn. You get a party of up to three, and pretty full character customization. Old school western RPG, Ultima Underworld style. It's a little unrefined, but the first real dungeon they toss you in is a doozy, and I noobed out and got myself trapped in a corner by an invincible enemy you're supposed to dodge (and I did, the first time, but got curious), without having saved. So I gotta restart. But it's been pretty fun so far.

No mention of Sonic Rush or Phoenix Wright? :?

Mario Kart DS
Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Jump Ultimate Stars (it's patched to English if you have a backup flashcart)
World Ends With You (if you like RPGs)
Professor Layton and the Curious Village (adventure puzzler)
Space Invaders Extreme
Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword (a technical achievement for the DS)
Bangai-O Spirits (quality shmup)
Disgaea DS (A decent port of the PS2 classic)
Geometry Wars: Galaxies (good old school fun)
Soul Bubbles (a decent platformer/puzzler made by one man afaik)
Custom Robo Arena (decent combat engine for an RPG)
Nanostray 2 (another quality shmup)
Meccha! Taiko no Tatsujin DS: 7tsu no Shima no Daibouken (the best rhythm game on the DS IMHO)
Sonic Rush Adventure (a worthy sequel to Sonic Rush, if you don't mind the annoying dialogue)
Time Hollow (A bit short so get it cheap)
Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney (Get it after finishing the Phoenix Wright trilogy)
Trace Memory (from the makers of Hotel Dusk, not that great though)
Thy ban hammer shalt strike Image

Not a big fan of the DS, I sometimes regret buying one. There is ONE game I absolutely love though: Elite Beat Agents. So much fun. I can't wait for the sequel! It better be coming :)

Ah, now that's more like it! Plenty of games not on my 'to get' list on this page. Especially yours, Pulsar. Sonic Rush and Phoenix Wright were both already on my list - Sonic was actually the first on there, so I was a little surprised to see no love for Sonic too.

Anyhew, I'll be sure to check those out. Thanks!

I'm reviving this topic just to see what else you guys mention as I know more games have been released since the last time this topic was active. I'm also looking to play some more DS games this year as I've almost completely ignored my DS since I bought it with all the shovelware I see on the shelves for it. So this topic is helpful as I hunt down good games to play
