DSI XL hinge loose ?

Post by kenshin-dono »

Hmm.. I had a question about the DSI XL for those of you who have one. I got the anniversary edition one at costco for xmas. Unfortunatly it had some screwed up pixels in the corner so i took it back. They had no more so i got my money back and went and bought one at Target. The 2nd one i got had some light leaking in from the corner of the screen that i could see when it was black. It kinda bugged me but i may have been able to live with it. Unfortunately it also seemed like the top screen had a yellow tint to it, particularly around the edges of the screen. It was very obvious when i fired up the DSlite with the same game and put them side by side (i.e. sands of destructions light blue top static screen was an uneven teal on that one)

So i took that one back and got another. This seems to be the only other XL they have. Im going to charge it up and test it but i noticed something right off the bat. It seems the screen is kinda wobbly. The other two didn't seem to be. The main problem is that on the full OPEN position it seems to lean too far back. The screens dont feel totally flush, it feels like the top screen is leaning back more than it should. I didn't mess with the first 2 I had that much; But im almost positive it didn't lean back this far, or wobble like this. I noticed it almost right away.

Am i just tripping or is this actually normal? Here are some pics

Here it is open on the first setting:

the 2nd setting:

the 3rd setting.. the one i think is too far back:

a few more pics of the 3rd setting:

this one is at an angle to show how they dont seem to be flush with eachother

Is it supposed to be like that or is that hinge loose? Like i said i could have sworn that the first two I had sat flush when it was fully open. Its also worth noting that if i put it on the first position and hold it regularly, then just shake my hands a bit, the top screen falls to the 2nd position. If i give a quick harder jerk it will fall all the way to the open position. I thought it was supposed to hold its position better than that?

Can anyone give those a look and tell me if thats right? I didn't want to exhange it a 3rd time but if i have to i will. I may have to goto gamestop or amazon next

Yeah, that's normal.

I believe it's designed to be opened to the "2nd setting" anyway.

are you guys sure? Im almost postive the other ones i had didn't have this issue, since i was trying them on all the positions to look at the screwy tint on the top screen. It also seems strange that a slight bump will knock it loose from the other locked positions. I guess you cant take this thing on a car ride.

Anyone else have one that can chime in? When its open all the way i cant even really use the shoulder buttons since it lays down over them. I have to push the screen up with my index finger and its really uncomfortable

grr wish i had payed more attention to the hinge last time. I gotta test this thing out tomorow anyway. I flipped it on briefly and it looked like the top screen might have had a yellow tint to it. Similiar to the problem a lot of people have with the ds lites. Im tired though so my eyes may have been playing tricks on me I'll have to look at it durring the day

Wait, so the light leaking isn't my fault? I've got the Anniversary DSi XL too, and it's kinda bugging me on pure black screens. I can't return it since I imported it from the UK, darn.
