so i finally snagged a wii but i had a question about its setup. I was going to do it vertically since thats how i see most people doing it, and it would fit my stand better. The thing is, when i went to set it up it doesn't seem to sit very well in the stand. I tried putting it straight onto the stand like the instructions say but it doesn't really click into place or anything. if i just grab and lift it pulls right up without any resistance and if i wobble it a bit while its on the stand it has quite a bit of give. This just has me a bit concerned since i dont know how much movement this thing has when its spinning with a disk. Shouldnt there be a click or something when it gets into place? I would think at the very least i shouldnt be able to just lift it right out of the stand
i tried finding some set up videos but all i see is how to hook the cables up, which i dont need. Im wondering about the stand itself. Anyone know if this is right or if mine is too loose?
btw this is the anniversery eddition mario one
Questino on the wii stand
Re: Questino on the wii stand
I don't use the stand; I really can't see why someone would use it. Does it look more aesthetically pleasing for you?

Re: Questino on the wii stand
I use the stand, only because that's how it fits into my setup I have now. My PS2 has been positioned both vertically and horizontally over the years, changing to adapt if my setup changes. The same is true for the Wii, if it'll fit in better one way then that's the way I'm going to use it.
Anyway, yes, it will lift right out of the stand. It doesn't clip in or anything. Did you get the system used? I'm assuming so since you didn't mention reading the manuals or anything. The manuals included with the console go over how to set it up in the stand.
It sits pretty deep in the stand though, so you don't have to worry about it falling out or anything like that. As for tipping over, did you get the little clear plastic circle piece that clips to the bottom of the stand? It works as a stabilizer, so it wont get knocked over easy.

Re: Questino on the wii stand
actually all my consoles are flat. This one though, i ALWAYS see verticallly in all the ads and at peoples houses and stuff. It seems like its really designed that way. Also it would probably be easier to put vertically since im kinda running outa room on the main TV with all my consoles and gadgets.
I bought the system brand new, not used. I DID read the manual. As i said in the initial post i read the manual and it says to just slide it straight into the stand (not slide it back) thats all it says. It just feels very loose to me. I assumed it would clip into place or something would be there to hold it steady. It makes me very leery that i can just grab the console and lift it right outa the stand with no resistance if i pull up. I guess it sits kinda deep into the stand but if i wobble it back and forth it moves a decent amount. Is this normal?
@cookiemonster what do you mean by it pulls the eye outa alignment?

Re: Question on the wii stand
It won't fall over from normal use, just breath.
It just sits in the stand which is deep in the back and keeps it steady. The clear disk that snaps into that base gives it more stability but I don't even use it anymore.

He means that gravity will eventually have an effect on the laser mechanism and put it out of alignment, meaning that it will have trouble reading discs after years and years of sitting upright. Whether that is true or not, I have no idea. I don't think it's much of an issue, as it could always just be re-adjusted I'm sure. This is a common problem with the Dreamcast that is very easy to fix (just need a screwdriver and a few minutes).kenshin-dono wrote:@cookiemonster what do you mean by it pulls the eye outa alignment?

Re: Questino on the wii stand
If the square hole in the bottom of the stand lines up with the case fan inside the Wii, then you're doing it right.

I've got to believe that is a rare case! I do believe you, though. I've opened a Wii before, but I forget if there is an easy way to adjust the laser mechanism. Was it much of an issue for you?cookie monster wrote:it is true that is what happened to mine
