Stack-up and other ROB related questions

Post by Evildeadmanwalking77 »

Hey guys. Does anyone know if this game is playable without the ROB accessory? I have Gyromite and it requires the 2nd controller to be plugged in to play it without ROB. Is it a hard (and expensive) game to find? I was also curious if it was possible to play ROB on newer tvs? I heard that you can not use ROB or the light gun on HD tvs. I do have a regular tube TV though so all would not be lost if I could get my hands on a ROB. If the light gun works on this tv then would ROB? Thanks guys!
I am addicted to video games, especially retro gaming from my era. I have: NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Gameboy, GBA, Wii, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, PS1, PS2, Xbox, and Xbox 360. I have probably over 1,000 games in total for all these systems combined. Yes, I need help and I wouldn't have it any other way! This is my passion and hey my wife still loves me!!

I'm not sure, but I have heard that every single copy of Stack-up produced includes the Famicom adapter inside it...

Yeah, I just looked at both ROB and Stack up on ebay. On the Stack-up it mentioned the Famicon convertor which I have no idea what and why as far as that goes. I know the Famicon is the Japenese version of the NES but other than that I don't know why a US game has that in it. I'm confused what to buy as far as ROB goes because it has a million parts that go with it! :? I need to make sure that ROB will work on my regular TV forst though before I buy it though. As I originally was asking, if the light gun works on it then hopefully the ROB will too? I'm about 90% sure that ROB or the light gun will not work on my LCD tv because I thought I read about that somewhere once before.

the rob will work on a regular tube tv that is what mine uses if you buy a rob make sure that is a complete one it should have a pair of detachable claws and a set of what looks like sunglasses that is a lens for if your tv is to light for him

Thanks. I'm having a tough time finding a complete one in good condition though. All the aucitons on ebay that do have complete ROBs also include the NES system w/ controllers, light gun, and mario/duck hunt & gyromite. Obviously I don't want to buy a NES system and those games too since I have all that already. This is definitely going to be a challenge! :(

A loose Stack-Up cart is not terribly difficult to find, but getting all the pieces will be much, much harder - and expensive.

I've been hoping to score a complete boxed set at some point, but my only real source where I live would be eBay and it easily gone for $150-$250 for the CIB set.

Gyromite can be and sometimes in frustration played without ROB. Unfortunately ROB needs a NON HD CRT to read the screen flashes to do anything. It should work on your TV if the Retro Lightgun does.

There is a work around for HDs and LCDs though. You can Mod the robot with a direct controller. Adds a new dimension to the gameplay, somewhat harder in fact since the direct control method isn't a preprogramed route.

Ok, I think I see which auction you're referring to from ND. That has all the necessary parts/pieces? I didn't see the "sunglasses" that it apparently is supposed to have? I have Gyromite so I'm aware of the difficulty of playing it without ROB which is why I was asking about it and I was curious if Stack Up was playable without ROB as well. I guess you need those pieces that Stack Up comes with to play it with ROB and it's absolutely insane as far as proce goes to buy it with that!! This whole thing is pretty confusing because I didn't know that game came with those parts/pieces. :?
